Job Description

DescriptionAt Loam, we have the earth in our hands. We foster a supportive and diverse workplace, where every team member is encouraged to learn and grow beyond their area of expertise.While everyone at Loam is working in different roles, we all have one job: to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store it stably in the soil.About the roleWe are looking for a Geospatial Statistician to contribute to the development of robust carbon modelling approaches as the broader team works together across:Stratification approaches, for physical soil sampling purposesAssess soil sequestration potential and prioritize areas for business developmentOptimize carbon credit claims, by ensuring robustness and traceability of the “carbon journey”Decrease the cost of SOC quantification by the innovative combination of different approachesResponsibilitiesBecome an expert in mapping and stratification methodsWork closely with Carbon Markets team members, in particular the Carbon Data Scientist (MRV) and Software Developer to develop our digital carbon platform capabilities.Create, develop, and maintain custom databases that pull from spatial data sets such as census data, GPS, field notes, remote sensing, and environmental monitoring data.Determine geographical statistics based on spatial data to inform decision-making.Collaborate on data visualization dashboards to more effectively communicate with clients and stakeholders.Work closely with our agronomy, product, data science and engineering team to build operational, state of the art soil carbon modelling systemsRequirementsMasters or doctoral degree in Agriculture/Environmental/Soil Science or geology/geo-technical with extensive geo-statistics experience in analyzing and interpolating large spatial 3D/4D datasets, preferably including soil and/or carbonAdvanced knowledge of GIS applications and software such as ArcGIS or QGISExperience with some or all of the following data analysis methods: generalized linear modelling, bootstrapping and simulation, spatial analysis, and Bayesian hierarchical modellingExperience with some or all of the following interpolations methods: kriging, radial-basis-function, inverse-distance-weighting, and nearest-neighborExperience in reporting and visualizationPreferred experience in the design of sampling campaigns and monitoring networks (incl. the development of methodologies for the sampling design, stratification, soil sampling and lab analyses protocols)Experience with proximal and remote measurement technologies, field, or laboratory expertise measuring soil carbon, land carbon building technologies and methods, and/or improvement of systems and processesExcellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under time constraints and meet deliverable targets and deadlinesExcellent written and oral communication skillsExperience with relational database systems and data manipulation,
