Job Description

Growing from a combined history of 117 years, trellis is building on the work of both legacy organizations to offer a continuum of 33 programs for over 9,000 people each year designed to support children, youth, adults, families and communities. The programs and services offered open a path upward for people from all sorts of backgrounds, including those caught at the intersection of societys most complex needs.Trellis works to end youth, adult and family homelessness and creates space for belonging and exploration in our community. We provide education and employment connections and support safe home environments for everyone we serve, including youth and children whether that be in their own home or through foster care or group care. We support deeper connections by meeting people where they are, across all cultures, languages, and diversity spectrums. Trellis is committed to empowering individuals and communities with the support they need to grow beyond lifes challenges and reach their dreams.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESThe key responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Engage and model respectful and appropriate relationships and professional boundaries with youth and staff team
  • Follow program expectations and youths individual treatment plans
  • Make intentional efforts towards the creation of a stable and consistent home-like environment (i.e. - modelling meal preparation or general housework)
  • Ability to develop strategies and treatment plans that support positive growth and development
  • Implement and adhere to industry standards and best practices including working from a trauma informed care, grief and loss and attachment lens
  • Daily documentation and formal report writing as required
  • Managing crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skills
  • Case management responsibilities for assigned youth as outlined by the Program Manager
  • Facilitate and support relationships with Natural Support connections in youths lives
  • Plan, organize, and implement recreational and therapeutic activities in and around the Calgary area
  • Complete any additional tasks as they are assigned
  • Work closely with or in collaboration with the Program Supervisor and Program Manager
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATEThis dynamic role requires our ideal candidate to possess at minimum the following:
  • A degree or diploma in Human Services field (Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Justice Studies, etc.) or currently enrolled. Equivalencies will be considered.
  • Previous experience working with children, youth, and families
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written along with computer literacy
  • Strong relationship building skills and a good understanding of working with vulnerable youth with challenging behaviours
  • Organized, self-motivated and able to work with a team and independently
  • Commitment to continual professional and personal
  • Valid drivers license, current Drivers Abstract and reliable vehicle with 2-million-dollar liability insurance
  • First Aid/CPR and Suicide Intervention (a requirement prior to commencement)
  • Successful candidate must have a clear Police Check including Vulnerable Sector Check, and a Child Intervention Record Check
