Your Opportunity:Under supervision and direction of the RN, RPN, LPN (Licensed Healthcare Professional), the Health Care Aide (HCA) provides direct care to clients in their homes in both the community and lodge setting. Responsibilities: Provides personal care and assists with activities of daily living as outlined in the care plan, including but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, grooming, transferring and mobilizing. Provides emotional support by being a good listener, being supportive, being friendly and sincere, and interacting in a positive and optimistic manner. Provides respite care to relieve family caregivers including but not limited to companionship, recreational activities, and supervision. Performs health care duties as authorized on the client’s plan of care including simple dressings, medication assistance, catheter care, ostomy care, and exercises for range of movement and strengthening. Provides Housekeeping services that are essential to the Client’s Activities of Daily Living in their immediate living space to increase the prospects for maintaining the client in their Home/Community. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.Additional Required Qualifications:Must be a graduate from an educational program using the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides or have met the criteria outlined in the Substantially Equivalent Competency Guidelines, or within 155 hours of being employed have commenced a training program based on the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides (HCAs). HCAs must complete the training program within 1 (one) year of being employed. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective communication in verbal and written English is required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. Medication Assistance Certificate or prior experience in Medication Assistance is preferred. Previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals is preferred. Well-developed time management skills. May be required to work a variety of shifts and shift patterns.Preferred Qualifications:Previous Community/Home care experience. Medication Assistance experience. Able to work independently in a community setting. Good handle on I-phone technology and computer/email skills.
