What qualifications are we looking forAt YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
  • Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset;
  • Minimum two years’ administrative experience; minimum one-year supervisory experience;
  • Interest/background in health and wellness;
  • YMCA/AFLCA Group Fitness certification and teaching experience (minimum possession of Group Strength certification preferred or ability to obtain certification soon). Additional Fitness certifications will be considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (experience with CLASS and Avanti is an asset);
  • Ability to work flexible hours including daytime, evenings and weekends as required to meet programming needs;
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months);
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination as per YMCA Calgary mandatory vaccination policy;
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
  • Three professional references required.
What does this role look like at YMCA CalgaryDuties and Responsibilities include:
  • Carry out administrative tasks including but not limited to scheduling, payroll, hiring packages, filing, equipment and area inspections, maintaining certification records, collection of statistics and data entry;
  • Instruct a variety of Group Fitness classes. This could range between 2-3 classes per day;
  • Ensure excellent quality member service by identifying the needs and wants of members and participants as priority and respond to their concerns in an effective, and timely manner;
  • Effectively communicate in a variety of methods and settings;
  • Assist with recruitment and orientation of volunteers, contract instructors and staff;
  • Ensure adult programs and services run as scheduled, providing coverage for classes and weight floor shifts as needed;
  • Take an active role in planning, promoting and facilitating YMCA initiatives and special events such as Community Wellness Days, Y Survive, and other events;
  • Duty Manager shifts as required;
  • Support the general manager of the branch in ensuring the YMCA has a positive presence in the local community;
  • Participate in the Staff and Volunteer aspect of the Annual Campaign.
