Job Description

Your Opportunity:Under the direction of the Manager, Early Years Health Promotion and as part of the Healthy Children & Families Program in Promoting Health, Provincial Population & Public Health, the key function of the Health Promotion Facilitator II with Masters is to collaborate with members of the team to provide provincial coordination and content expertise for the areas of maternal, infant and early childhood health promotion. The position supports the team’s work through an integrated planning and evaluation framework approach and by applying population health promotion models and strategies. A member of an interdisciplinary and provincial team, the HPF II focuses broadly on the area of maternal and child health and utilizes professional knowledge and skills, along with creative health promotion strategies (such as creating supportive environments, developing personal skills, strengthening community action, building healthy public policy and reorienting health services) to initiate, develop, facilitate implementation and evaluate provincial health promotion initiatives through collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support improvements in the health of families across Alberta. This position supports the development of a strategic priorities for Early Years and will engage in the identification and prioritization of opportunities based on review of the literature, environmental scans, client needs and program data. Key duties will include synthesizing evidence and information from multiple sources into various deliverables; developing project plans and supporting implementation; developing and completing quality improvement processes; and helping to represent the Early Years Health Promotion team through participation on various committees and working groups, both internal and external to AHS. Location Negotiable.Description:As a Health Promotion Facilitator II, you will lead and coordinate health promotion, disease and injury prevention initiatives and programs using a population health promotion approach. You will identify behavioural, social, political, economic, environmental and organizational factors that promote or compromise health and recommend evidence-informed strategies to address identified priorities. You will conduct situational analyses, literature reviews, environmental scans and focus groups to make recommendations as part of an integrated program planning and evaluation process. You will manage projects using standardized tools and techniques that are conducive or aligned with health promotion, disease and injury prevention practices. You will collaborate with key internal and external key stakeholders in project or program planning, development, implementation, evaluation and improvement. You will facilitate community and staff engagement and build community and staff capacity around population health promotion priorities. You will evaluate the effectiveness of existing health promotion and disease prevention strategies and make recommendations.

Required Qualifications:Completion of masters degree in Health Promotion, Public or Population Health, Health Education or a related field.Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a health promotion or related field with experience working with complex networks and partnerships. Knowledge and application of the population health promotion model, relevant health promotion strategies and determinants of health. Experience with project/program management and program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Demonstrated ability to communicate (written, verbal and interpersonal). Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into high quality deliverables (technical reports, strategic plans, presentations, creative writing pieces). Demonstrated critical thinking skills, including conceptual thinking, strategizing, and problem-solving. Demonstrated organizational skills and abilities. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a variety of disciplines, sectors and internal and external stakeholders/partners. Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities. Ability to mobilize diverse groups and build consensus. Skilled in group facilitation, chairing meetings, teaching and presenting. Ability to use Windows based computer and corresponding software is required (Microsoft Office Suite, Publisher, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat.Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in a maternal, infant and early childhood health care environment. Comprehensive content expertise in maternal, infant and child health. Experience working with diverse and high risk populations. Experience in health marketing and communications.
