Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a Highway Maintenance Worker with Mainroad Chinook Contracting LP based out of Rocky View County, Alberta. This position will report directly to the Foreman/General Manager and is for 8 weeks with the opportunity to be extended.Mainroad Chinook Contracting LP is contracted by Chinook Highway Operations Inc. – a partnership between SNC-Lavalin Operations & Maintenance Inc. and Acciona Concessions Canada (2008) Inc. Mainroad Chinook takes pride in providing a variety of services such as road repair, snow removal and lighting maintenance for the Southeast Stoney Trail. The Southeast Stoney Trail Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between the Alberta Government and Chinook Roads Partnership and is one of the largest single P3 highway infrastructure projects in Alberta’s history.Mainroad Chinook Contracting LP is part of the Mainroad Group, which is an employee owned company recognized as a leader in providing innovative, safe and reliable maintenance, products and construction services for civil infrastructure across Canada.The Government of Canada funded this job through the Canada Summer Jobs program so you must be aged between 15 and 30 and be legally entitled to work in Canada to apply. The following groups that are underrepresented or have additional barriers to the labour market are encouraged to apply:New immigrant/refugeeIndigenousYouth who have not completed high schoolVisible minorities/racialized youthLGBTQ2 youthWomen in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)Youth who have not previously been employed and for whom this would be their first job experienceLiving in a rural areaThe successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract.Previous labour experience is preferred.Knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.Ability to acquire and record accurate information.Ability to work weekends, if required.Willing to work in extreme weather conditions.Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn quickly.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Willing to obtain a Traffic Control (TCP) Ticket.Ability to solve problems, adapt and think quickly on-the-fly.Capable of performing heavy physical labour.Able to work within a team environment.Dedicated and committed.Job duties include the following:Performs activities such as traffic control, emergency response, highway surface maintenance, right-of-way maintenance (fence repair, litter pick-up, grass cutting, shrub/tree maintenance, embankment repair, etc.), highway patrolling, shoulder maintenance, drainage maintenance, etc.Uses the appropriate equipment and relevant functions to maximize cost effectiveness.Investigates and records all potential or actual equipment malfunctions or needs for maintenance, repair or cleaning on the appropriate form(s).Maintains vehicles in orderly condition at all times and keeps equipment properly serviced including but not limited to greasing and fluid levels.Ensures vehicles are equipped with appropriate small tools and materials to perform duties. Minor debris clean up, pot-hole repairs and minor vehicle repairs and any/all required/ planned highway maintenance activities within specification.Ensures all materials and tools are properly secured at all times before leaving the yard and when travelling between job locations.Performs all assigned highway maintenance activities as per contract specification, within the specified response times.Safely and clearly establishes lane closures, providing ample warnings to road users.Attends incidents/accidents in a timely manner to ensure public safety.During summer operations, ensures awareness of weather forecasts and is properly prepared to go out in the appropriate vehicle with appropriate tools and materials.Operates small equipment and drives pickup trucks including hauling material.Completes digital hazard assessments, pre-trip and post-trip checks and other forms.Performs other related duties as assigned.Interested applicants are asked to submit their cover letter and resume.
