About the Position: In this full-time position, the Housing Outreach Worker works in collaboration with the Calgary Homeless Foundation, Closer to Home’s Housing Outreach Workers, and the community to ensure housing stability for families in the Home Again Program. The Housing Outreach Worker will provide integral support in developing and maintaining partnership(s) with private landlords in the community, by meeting with landlords in the community to advocate on behalf of clients, providing crisis support to clients and landlords, and facilitating workshops to help families build life skills and meet their goals. The Housing Outreach Worker will be employing a housing first approach and will be working with individuals with mental health and additions issues. Specific responsibilities will include negotiating with landlords, developing and facilitating skill building workshops, and visiting with clients in their home.About You: You possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to effectively communicate with and relate to people of all ages. You are extremely detail oriented, organized and can effectively manage multiple priorities at one time. You are able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with parents, children and youth and their family as a whole as well as with community agencies and resources. You are a compassionate individual with a positive and empathetic approach who understands how to set appropriate professional boundaries. You have experience with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds, are sensitive to their cultural and spiritual needs and can incorporate these into planning for families. You will have experience working with homeless populations, indigenous populations, and in the housing sector. Also possess knowledge and experience with housing locating, landlord relations, and subsidized housing programs. You will possess the skills to provide case management to families to assist with maintaining housing and goal setting around finances, education, employment, and basic needs. You have an understanding of the barriers to housing for Indigenous people, and how to help combat this. In addition, you are eager to learn and carry out the principles and philosophy of Closer to Home and the Teaching-Family Model.A Diploma or Degree in a related field and/or previous experience working with vulnerable children and families is required. You must be willing to work a flexible work week, including evenings and weekends when needed. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience with HMIS, however training is available. The successful candidate must also have a valid Driver’s License, reliable transportation, adequate and current insurance and be willing to provide a Driver’s Abstract upon hire.
