About MRUFounded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Mount Royal has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education and unique undergraduate programs. The portfolio includes accountability for the areas of talent attraction (recruitment), compensation, employee development as well as being the departmental lead for the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion. The incumbent will partner with stakeholders within the University and will also leverage the use of external providers in order to support the delivery of effective and timely programming.The incumbent will inform procedures, best practices, priorities and policy, while fostering a cross-functional work environment in support of continual assessment/improvement and integration of emerging trends.This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.ResponsibilitiesHuman Resources Programming, Strategy, and Services

  • Lead continued development of organizational culture and staff engagement strategies
  • Maintains management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall human resources and University strategy
  • Responsible for supporting a positive and effective people and culture working environment
  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing concerns or gaps from manager and leaders
  • Manage the recruitment and selection process
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation and preservation of human capital
  • Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics and procedures across the organization
  • Nurture a positive working environment
  • Champions and managing the performance appraisal system that drives high performance and aligns with compensation structures
  • Manage and provide decision support through HR metrics
  • Promote continuous improvement by creating feedback process, doing benchmarking and researching best practices in the area that support employee life cycle.
  • Develop, review, or improve employee programs
  • Participate and collaborate with HR leadership on committees, taskforce in the area of Indigenization, Equity Diversity and Inclusion and University engagement and cultural initiatives.
Talent Attraction
  • Develops and implements a strategy to support the recruitment and retention of an engaged workforce, including the identification and development of MRU’s employee value proposition
  • Accountable for the oversight of the University’s Rewards & Recognition program, including review and recommendations for improvement
  • Manage and provide support for the administration of the retain search process for the University
Employee Development
  • Leads talent management initiatives, including learning strategies (employee development), succession planning, performance management, employee engagement and leadership development in support of building high-performing teams and employees
  • Collaborating with other stakeholders who play key roles in the employee experience, including key contacts in other parts of the organization who play a role in learning and development
Total Rewards
  • Collaborate to develop a comprehensive, inclusive and equitable compensation philosophy and implementation of a framework for management and staff
  • Manage the classification of job titles and salary brackets
  • Oversees market research, benchmarking, and trend analysis to ensure internal and external equity and competitiveness
  • Accountable for the development of compensation structures and job evaluation processes to support the calibration and integration of multiple systems as well as ensuring legislative compliance
  • Participates in the benefits plan renewal process and helps assess for competitiveness and alignment to the organization’s compensation philosophy and total rewards
Other duties as assignedQualifications
  • 8-10 years of progressive HR experience
  • 3-5 years managing a team
  • Education in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Development
  • Visionary HR professional with proven leadership in operational roles
  • Ability to recognize problems, analyze, and find creative solutions
  • Experience leading teams and organizations through transformation and implementing new processes and ways of working
  • Detailed understanding of continuous improvement and business optimization processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated, forward-thinking ideas to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Knowledge of Federal and Provincial Labour Laws
  • Subject matter expertise in back-office HR functions such as payroll, benefits, and compensation, employee relations
  • CPHR designation would be an asset
