Reporting to the Vice President of Resources, the Indigenous Relations Manager will work in collaboration with our Mining and Energy businesses to promote, strengthen and enhance the participation of Indigenous Peoples in the industries we serve.The Indigenous Relations Manager will lead the initiative of fostering mutually beneficial and sustainable business relationships which reinforces meaningful engagement, capacity building and development of social-economic opportunities through their understanding of the Indigenous culture, history, and protocols. This person will also work with Quadra’s corporate resources to develop our communication strategy and vision in this area.Founded over 45 years ago, Quadra is dedicated to its 450+ employees located in Canada and the United States. What would be your main responsibilities in this role :
  • Lead external engagement with Indigenous partners through open dialogue, networking opportunities, and attendance at Indigenous community functions
  • Enhance existing Indigenous partnerships while developing and building new partnerships in support of our growing business
  • Whilst working in collaboration with the Quadra Commercial Team, lead negotiations with Indigenous communities in order to develop mutually beneficial impact benefits agreements or other similar relationships in support of our commercial efforts
  • Represent Quadra in committees of industry associations and government initiatives related to Indigenous Relations (i.e., Mining Association of Canada, Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business, Canadian Mineral Processing, CIM, Oil Sands Community Alliance, etc.)
  • Arrange, coordinate, and participate in project site visits, facilitating the collection of input and feedback from Indigenous communities
  • Liaise between Indigenous communities and external clients to balance expectations of Indigenous partners with Quadra’s contractual commitments
  • Coordinate and prepare reports for Indigenous partners and our customers in support of the executed impact benefit or similar agreements
  • Champion Indigenous relations internally and externally, by promoting diversity, inclusion, company values, corporate responsibility, and cultural awareness
  • Assisting the company’s corporate communications group in documenting and communicating the company’s indigenous related successes, goals and vision
  • Support corporate indigenous and sustainability initiatives in collaboration with the Executive Committee
What qualifications are required to be successful in this role
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional work experience
  • Post-graduate education in law, social sciences, Indigenous studies, sustainability, social/public policy, or other related fields.
  • Understanding of the contemporary diversity of Indigenous peoples across Canada including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities
  • Demonstrated success working with Indigenous groups and designing, managing, and evaluating Indigenous strategies and programs
  • Understanding of various human rights safeguards and protection frameworks for Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge and experience of international principles and best practice frameworks related to Indigenous groups e.g., UN Global Compact, UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights and Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM)
  • Knowledge of the policies, federal and provincial regulatory processes, guidelines and trends, and issues affecting Indigenous peoples of Canada
  • Experience and familiarity with interpreting contracts would be an asset
  • Strong skills in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Knowledge of Salesforce would be an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English. Knowledge of French would be an asset
  • Valid Passport and Driver’s license
  • Ability to travel within North America (including overnight) as required but no more than 50% of the time
