Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request.As an Information Security Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting the strategic and tactical initiatives of the Information Security Operations team. You will also be working with business units to develop, implement and promote an information security and risk-aware culture following an Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM) approach. Primary duties include:

  • Monitor and review alerts in the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)/Security Orchestration and Automation Response (SOAR) system, assess risk and validity of findings.
  • Perform Cyber security incident response and investigation based on threat intelligence, hunting with usage of technology like: SIEM and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR).
  • Develop automation Playbooks using modern SOAR Platforms to support Security Operations.
  • Design and develop integration solutions to other security systems by leveraging SOAR Platform.
  • Participate in Vulnerability Management program, collaborating with stakeholders on remediation tasks.
  • Work closely with other Information Security and Information Technology teams to reduce business risks and improve detection and response capabilities.
  • Action escalated incidents, problems and service requests in a timely manner.
  • Understand current and emerging security threats to mitigate where possible.
  • Act as the system administrator for security tools such as Vulnerability Management System, Firewall Configuration Management System, SIEM system, etc.
  • Participate in a weekly after hours on-call rotation.
Qualifications
  • A completed 2 year Technology Diploma and at least 8 years of Information Security or related experience; OR a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline and at least 4 years of Information Security or related experience.
  • An understanding of server platforms (for example Linux, Windows), networking, security (Firewalls, IDS/IPS, proxy systems) and experience with UNIX and Windows Command Line Interface.
  • Experience working in a Security Operations Centre (SOC) will be preferred.
  • One or more recognized Security certifications (for example: Certified Information Systems Security Professional) is preferred.
  • Experience with SIEM platforms, Vulnerability Management and Endpoint Protection systems as well as working knowledge of Scripting or Universal Languages (for example PowerShell or Python) will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of how malicious code operates, how technical vulnerabilities are exploited, and knowledge of cyber threats, defenses, motivations, and techniques will also be considered an asset.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, organization and planning skills with the ability to self-start, prioritize, multi-task and work in a team setting.
  • Previous experience working in a municipal government and a broad knowledge of the types of services provided by a large municipality will be beneficial.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
