As such, we welcome talented individuals that have a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, and industry experience who will contribute to the success of our One Parkland team.Position Title: Insurance ManagerTeam and Location: Finance – Calgary, ABPosition Summary:Reporting to the Director of Insurance, the Manager, Insurance will be an integral member of Parkland’s Corporate Insurance Team. Key responsibilities include managing the end-to-end process of procuring insurance for Parkland’s Canadian, U.S., and Caribbean operations, providing expertise to internal stakeholders in the areas of risk assessment and risk transfer, including contractual risk transfer, and furthering the implementation of the corporate risk management strategy.Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director, Insurance with development and implementation of risk transfer and risk tolerance strategies that incorporate the changing risk profile of Parkland’s assets.
  • Compile annual insurance submissions for various insurance program renewals; liase with various internal business units throughout Canada, the U.S., and Caribbean to collect, review, and present the data in a consolidated format.
  • Create marketing presentations for renewal meetings with insurers.
  • Provide input on the optimal combination of self-insurance, external insurance, and utilization of Parkland’s captive.
  • Issue clear and accurate instruction to external insurance brokers, articulate Parkland’s risk management initiatives, and assist in renewal assessments and negotiations.
  • Work with Legal and Procurement to review contracts (insurance and indemnity provisions), provide advice regarding allocation of risks and respond to insurance provision exceptions.
  • Assist with insurance due diligence on business development acquisitions/projects.
  • Participate in creation of annual insurance budget, including review of and recommendations for internal allocations.
  • Review insurance policies to ensure coverage meets agreed terms as well as the needs of the business.
  • Provide insurance expertise to business units.
  • Assist Director with preparation of reports to various senior committees.
  • Assist in facilitating, coordinating, and participating in loss control surveys, as required.
  • Claims management, as required.
  • Develop team members and provide opportunities for growth/involvement.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in complex commercial insurance, preferably on the company side in a risk management role.
  • Bachelor’s of Commerce degree.
  • CRM, CIP, and/or FCIP designations.
  • Technical insurance expertise for a broad range of lines of cover.
  • Experience in the design, marketing, and placement process for external insurance.
  • Expertise in analyzing contracts and understanding of liability provisions is mandatory.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including negotiating skills for contractual reviews.
  • Familiarity with captive insurance programs is an asset.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Sense of urgency, exceptional attention to detail, self-motivated, organized.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities.
  • Capability to work with others in a kind, collaborative, and respectful manner. Applies to direct team members, internal staff and external stakeholders.
