At FortisAlberta, we power Alberta communities and empower our people to do their best work.What Are We Looking ForFortisAlberta is looking for an IT Security Advisor, who under the general direction of the Manager IT Security & Governance, the IT Security Advisor will primarily be responsible for assisting with the ongoing execution of the IT Security program. The IT Security program involves all aspects of effective IT security management including: architecture and technology standards; risk management; awareness and training; metrics and measurement; compliance; organizational and personnel security guidance; physical and environmental security requirements for IT; and security incident management processes.This role will be responsible for the day-to-day security operations, vulnerability management, security monitoring, and incident response processes and provide operational IT security support to the other business and IT teams as required. This role requires the confidence of others in the organization to be able to support and effectively manage security risks. This role also requires a broad range of competencies including familiarity with current Information Technology and aspects of IT security.The IT Security Advisor will administer, maintain and support operational security and monitoring systems (e.g. Network Firewalls, Intrusion, Prevention, Vulnerability Management, and Security Analytics systems. This role will perform vulnerability scans, analysis, validation and facilitate remediation activities. The IT Security Advisor will also assist in investigation and response to alerts and security incidents, including malware. The Security Advisor will maintain all the IT Security change and incident management queues daily, this includes performing technical incident response and forensic analysis. Provide timely follow up and resolution of IT Security requests, incidents, and issues.The IT Security Advisor will also help in developing and maintaining the IT Security operational processes and procedures documentation. Additionally, this role will assist in the development, deployment, operation, and retirement of security safeguards, tools, and technologies. This advisor will participate in selected projects that involve the implementation of key IT security technologies or processes. Furthermore, this role will support the adoption of externally mandated security guidelines, standards, and criteria. This role will research and assess emerging security threats and vulnerabilities.The IT Security Advisor will provide on-call support for operational security systems and 3rd party security outsourcer and provide support to other business and IT teams as required. This role will assist in the delivery of security training and awareness initiatives. Additionally, any special projects and other duties, as assigned.What will you bring to the Role

  • Demonstrated understanding of IT security principles, methodologies and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of IT security operations and incident management processes.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative and problem solving skills with critical attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to support Web Content Filtering, Network Access Control, Vulnerability Management and Intrusion Prevention Systems solutions.
  • Proficient in security monitoring incident management and response.
  • Proven aptitude for quickly assimilating complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and facilitate resolution of complex problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and information settings.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in order to effectively manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines.
  • Strong customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of firewall technology, Windows Server and Desktop technology, Active Directory and Microsoft GPO technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability in using MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with SAP would be an asset.
Qualifications we are looking for:
  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Business Administration (Management Information Systems), Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology or related discipline plus a minimum 5 years’ experience in Information Technology within several areas of IT: IT Security, Operations, Development and/or Quality Control; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an IT Security role.
  • Recognized IT industry security certification (CISSP, GIAC, CIHE, CEH, etc.) would be an asset.
  • Experience with NIST Cyber Security Framework, Centre for Internet Security (CIS) Top 20 Critical Controls, and/or NERC security standards would be an asset.
  • Experience with Powershell and Enterprise Analytics Tools would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
Special Conditions:
  • Due to geographic and training considerations, some travel, including overnight stays, is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license is required.
