The successful candidate will join our Medical Defence Law Clerk team providing support to the clerks and professionals in this specialized area of health law. The successful candidate brings civil litigation experience, a proven ability to work in a team environment, and a genuine interest in the medical defence practice.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the intake of new matters and associated tasks;
  • Liaise with the client, physicians, and the medical defence team as required;
  • Assist with client electronic file management matters;
  • Assist with drafting correspondence and memoranda to meet the requirements of the court, the client, and counsel;
  • Prepare and review reports, and maintain proprietary databases as required;
  • Coordinate regular meetings of the office’s medical defence team;
  • Open new files and conduct appropriate conflict searches;
  • Monitor and maintain file administrative requirements;
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the medical defence team leaders and group;
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Legal Administrative Assistant Diploma is required;
  • A minimum of three to five years of litigation experience with a solid understanding of the steps in the Alberta civil litigation process;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills, including the ability to take direction and receive mentoring from team members;
  • Demonstrated commitment to a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion is required;
  • Excellent prioritization and organization skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Interest in a challenging and varied workload;
  • Advanced problem solving skills and flexibility, including the ability to set priorities while dealing with conflicting and emerging priorities;
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the client and the needs of the legal professionals;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Paralegal/ Law Clerk Certification from a recognized post-secondary institution is an asset;
  • Understanding of medical terminology is an asset;
  • Experience with Relativity is an asset.
