G&G provides complex genetic testing for a broad range of inherited conditions, serving an important role in the provision of genetic services for the province of Alberta. The Lab Assistant I position may rotate through any of the Biochemical Genetics, Cytogenetics, or Molecular Genetics laboratories, as well as the Genetic Resource Centre (GRC) co-located at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. As a Laboratory Assistant I, you may plan and organize your work responsibilities and processes to perform standard and specialized procedures alongside other lab assistants. You will be responsible for pre-analytical specimen receiving and accessioning, distributing, processing, storage, packaging and shipment of specimens as required. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, responding to inquiries; cleaning; monitoring and preventative maintenance of lab equipment and work areas; maintaining common supplies; updating inventories and data sheets; and participating in training, lab quality and safety requirements.Description:As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
