Job Description

We need a Large Loss Appraiser to join our Property Claims team to leverage their technical expertise and be responsible for accurately assessing building damages. You will also responsible for providing both emergency mitigation and structural scopes of repairs. We’ll need you to provide reliable assurance of an effective control environment regarding building losses, focusing on the scope, repair, quality and customer experience.This role will provide support to the Claims Adjuster in assessing, running and controlling emergency mitigation following a loss in excess of $150,000.00, through ensuring that a clear mandate and costing is established with the contractor as quickly as possible with an agreed timeline.In this position, you will assess the structural repair, prepare ACV/RCV valuation reports, reserve calculations and complete a control estimate/scope through Corelogic (Symbiity) and use this Aviva control to act as a cap in a tender process, whereby there may be a mixture of premiere and any non-premiere contractors provide competitive bids, including a construction schedule and progress draw schedule.This role is highly collaborative and includes working closely with our assigned specialists depending on the complexity of the loss. This may include but is not limited to: Structural/Electrical/Mechanical Engineers, City Building Officials, Code Experts, Hygienists and Architects.You will negotiate terms of any time and material or cost -plus projects using Symbility with Aviva pricing as a budget. Supervise the project as required and communicating status updates weekly to the Handling Adjuster is paramount.The Large Loss Appraiser will also conduct site inspections as required with respect to ensuring compliance to construction schedules in addition to recommendations on progress draws.This role requires the ability to read and interpret scopes/estimates from Aviva Premiere Vendors as well as non -Premiere vendors and provide comprehensive feedback and establish an action plan as required in accordance with our protocols and standard methodologies. The role works in support of Claims Operations, while adhering to the protocols established and managed by Aviva Supplier Management and the Loss Assessment Unit.Does this sound like you Read on!What you’ll do:Take accountability for controlling building related costs and improving efficiencies while maintaining a high level of outstanding customer service.Keep abreast of emerging construction practices, standards and materials.Be accountable for timely and accurate reporting.Interpret engineer drawings and specifications.Produce the tender documents and cost - plus agreements.Effectively investigate and analyze variances in bid submissions;Establish accurate building reserves, calculating replacement cost value and actual cash value reporting.Recommend and implement action plans for proceeding with emergency mitigation, demolition and structural repairs.Collaborate with Specialists, Engineers, and provide detailed feedback and establish actions and standard methodologies. This process may also include Project Management and the management of required Experts, all while working in tandem with the assigned file handler, Supervisor or Regional Claims Manager.Complete re-inspections for progress and/or any change in scope.What you’ll bring:5+ years of Residential and Commercial Appraisal experience in a senior position (losses >$150K) including in-depth knowledge of both commercial and residential building construction practices.10+ years of Xactimate/Symbility scoping and estimating experience at a senior level.Sound ability to build comprehensive estimates using appropriate software.Solid understanding of claims adjusting practices and valuation tools: 360Value, Marshall and SwiftProblem solving and analytical skills balanced with strong decision-making ability.Excellent presentation and influencing skills required to effectively articulate sophisticated issues to senior management, colleagues, business leaders and external partners.Extremely strong Customer Service and communication skills with an ability to communicate respectfully and empathetically with the customerIntermediate Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook skills.Excellent time management and organization skills.Ability to multitask and achieve team and individual targets.Ability to stay organized and meet timescalesBilingualism French/English is an assetPost-Secondary education or working toward completion of the Insurance Institute program (CIP / FCIP) would be preferredSolid understanding of the Water Damage Standards of IICRC S500 and have WRT and ASD certificationsHighly adaptable to the fast-paced environment and can communicate clearly to interested partiesAbility to be customer oriented and flexible to accommodate partners in time zones across CanadaWhat you’ll getCompelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.Outstanding Career Development opportunities.We’ll support your professional development education.Aviva Canada has an accommodation process in place to provide accommodations for employees with disabilities.
