Over the past few years, the University has expanded its alumni engagement efforts and is committed to maintaining this momentum by engaging alumni with the university and each other in high-value activities.About the RoleYou are an experienced marketing or communications professional who is looking for the opportunity to build and own a comprehensive content strategy aimed at growing audience engagement and providing high-value, high-quality experiences across all Alumni Relations-owned channels.Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations and working in a small but growing team, you will use your obsession with data and market research to develop a deep understanding of your audience and design and implement a high-level digital content strategy that meets alumni needs and supports the department’s business objectives.Using a content marketing approach, you will draw on the expertise of a central marketing and communications team, your fellow team-mates and user-generated content to plan campaigns and produce digital content in a range of formats including written, visual/photography, video, and audio. You will lead the team’s editorial planning and writing process and provide training to your colleagues to support the development of their written communication skills. Providing daily oversight on Alumni Relations social media, website, and email channels, you uphold brand voice and consistency and work closely with the central marketing and communications team to support the coordination of issues management and crisis communications.You are an exceptional writer, copy editor and high-level strategic thinker who is curious about the world and constantly learning about trending topics, current issues, and the wide variety of interests of our diverse alumni community. You are self-directed, solutions-seeking, and resilient, and experienced at navigating stakeholder needs and issues management with good judgment and diplomacy.   • Design and implement a comprehensive digital content strategy for Alumni Relations that helps achieve departmental business objectives and supports institutional strategic priorities
  • Develop and oversee an editorial workflow process, procuring content, managing deadlines, reviewing story pitches, and copy editing content drafts
  • Prepare content and marketing campaign plans and write story pitches, project briefs, articles and stories, video storyboards and scripts, web, social, print and e-newsletter copy, etc
  • Ensure the ongoing development and maintenance of the alumni website as a resource and information hub for the alumni community
  • Collaborate closely with the central marketing and communications team and the annual giving team to develop shared objectives and ensure appropriate coordination and integration of campaigns and content
  • Lead and coach the part-time social media coordinator to develop compelling and interactive social activity and email communications, and to set and achieve audience growth and engagement goals
  • Work with the business analyst to design and conduct appropriate market research and analysis and ensure ongoing content performance tracking, evaluation and reporting
  • Identify and engage with high-profile alumni and alumni subject matter experts in the community to develop compelling stories, engage their participation in campaigns and to procure user-generated content
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, interests and issues in the alumni community and the general public
  • Act as project lead for assigned projects that require a high degree of cross-campus collaboration and project management
  • Coordinate with the central marketing and communications team on issues management and crisis communications
  • Participate in tracking and entering data related to alumni activity and engagement with the university
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications or other relevant discipline
  • More than 8 years of experience in marketing, communications, content strategy, digital media, brand management or related experience
  • Innovative thinker with high level of initiative, energy and enthusiasm
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling and copy-editing skills
  • Demonstrated success in designing content strategy, marketing campaigns and/or digital content plans that use written, audio, and visual formats to meet business goals, grow audience and increase revenue
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, including high degree of tact and mature judgment
  • High degree of comfort working with Hootsuite, analytics tools, and content management systems
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects and implementing workflow and process improvements
  • Experience working in a large complex organization, preferably in higher education or with a fundraising component
