Job Description

PurposeReporting to the LINC Program Senior Manager, the LINC Program Instructor facilitates and instructs assigned LINC clients following the PBLA Emerging Practice Guidelines aligned with the Canadian Language Benchmarks. The Instructor prepares engaging lessons within modules that are real-world task rich, adjusts the curriculum to the needs of clients, and evaluates student progress to ensure smooth delivery of the program.Key Responsibilities· Be familiar with the objectives and outcomes of the LINC program and follow the LINC curriculum guidelines· Prepare and deliver CLB-aligned and student-centred lesson plans according to the students needs and the LINC Curriculum· Use Portfolio-Based Language Assessment to evaluate students work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement, providing each student with exit benchmarks at the end of the semester·Use a thematic approach to teaching based on Canadian culture, settlement and integration of life skills· Incorporate one of the essential skills, digital literacy, in their curriculum at a level appropriate for the class CLB level(s)· Provide ongoing needs-assessment and evaluation to ensure clients’ language needs are being met· Keep record of students’ attendance in real time on School Sense and daily lessons; monitor students’ progress· Prepare and submit the tracking sheets, LINC students’ success stories, and all the end-of-term documents such as progress reports and conference summaries· Submit one module plan and all of the materials used within the module should include skill Building Activities, Skill Using Activities; Self/Peer/Teacher administered Tasks, etc. at the request of the Program Manager· Be responsible for preparing lesson plans and teaching materials for the substitute instructors when taking time off; prepare and submit emergency lesson plans· Engage in PD opportunities provided and/or recommended by the LINC Program Senior Manager/LINC Program Manager· Perform other related duties requested by the supervisorCompetencies (define the abilities, skills, motivations, knowledge and traits to perform the job)KnowledgeKnowledge of:· Development, implementation, coordination, delivery and evaluation of English as a Second Language to an immigrant population· Canadian Language Benchmarks, Portfolio-Based Language Assessment and experience in teaching it particularly to stage 1 learners· Task-based approaches· Needs assessment· Assessment and testing· Instructional strategies and styles in a cross-cultural environmentSkills· Communication· Lesson planning

Education and ExperienceThe successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in English or Education, preferably with a TESL certificate or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least two years of teaching experience in a related field is required. The CLB Bootcamp is required, and PBLA training is considered an asset. Experience in a non-profit organization would be considered an asset.Number of Hires: 4 ( 2 FT, 4 PT)Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contractSchedule:
