Prairie Dog Brewing is looking to round out our kitchen team with experienced line cooks (3-5 years). We need reliable, open minded, highly competent and creative people who will enjoy the rush of a busy kitchen service on evenings and weekends, while also enjoying mentoring and supporting our less experienced cooks at the same time.Why Prairie DogWe know you have lots of other options to look at, so lets cut right to the chase:

• Our kitchen team is well paid. Most restaurants only pay a kitchen tip-out of up to 2% of sales. We pay our kitchen team a 5.5% tip out, on average (we are a no tip expected establishment, but that doesnt stop our team from earning tips because we do such a great job with our food and service). Expect to be earning between $25 and $30 per hour worked, regardless of day of week/time of day.

About the JobAs a member of our kitchen team, your goal is to contribute to a memorable, positive experience for our other team members and guests. Kitchen team members participate in teamwork service, allowing you to work all around the kitchen and hone your own skills, sharing the workload while also learning assembly, food prep (including BBQ), board calling, and food expediting routines and roles. Team members are encouraged to contribute ideas for menu specials, recommend changes to existing items, and to help train and develop each other in new areas along the way. What we absolutely are not looking for is anyone who will bring baggage with them from the industry, such as a sexist or abusive attitude toward others. We are a team of professionals; everyone at Prairie Dog Brewing is equally valued and has an important job to do.The kinds of duties youll perform in this role include:

• Accurately cooking, assembling and/or plating food during our busy lunch and dinner services
• Calling board for other line cooks (on the slower shifts - Sous Chefs take this on at busy times)
• Coordinating plating activities with our Food Expeditor/DoorDash Lead
• Assisting around the entire kitchen and dish area as needed
• Performing in-service food prep activities as well as occasionally rotating through morning shifts to show your skills and help with out-of-service food prep
• Setting up and tearing down the cooking line
• Cleaning the kitchen at the end of the night (and as you go)

Required Qualifications and AbilitiesThe following are either required or highly valued skills, education and experience:

• Minimum 3 years of busy restaurant kitchen experience
• A culinary degree or diploma, or additional equivalent experience
• BBQ knowledge is a plus
• Intermediate to strong knife skills
• A mobile smart phone capable of running modern software applications
• Excellent English communication skills, especially verbal
• Excellent listening skills and hearing – the kitchen can be a noisy environment
• Physically fit - you must be able to stand on your feet for long stints, working in close quarters above and around heat sources, slippery floors and teammates, and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. unassisted (such as 5-gallon pails of meat in brine)
• Up to date Safe Food Handling Certification - we take food safety seriously, including food allergies!
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada
• This position requires evening and weekend work - including closes. You must have a reliable mode of transportation that allows you to commute during the early morning hours when Calgary Transit is not available (such as after 1am on Friday/Saturday nights)
• Must be double vaccinated against Covid-19
• Great references from former teammates are a big plus
• An employee identity verification and criminal background check may be required

CompensationAs mentioned earlier, this job pays between $23 and $30 per hour including our Staff Funds tip outs (on biweekly payroll). Staff Funds payouts are typically between $5-$7/hr, and the base hourly wage range for this experienced role is between $18-$23/hr (to be determined based on the interview process). Wages may be adjusted during your 90-day probationary period based on individual performance.Upon completion of your probationary period, youll become eligible for co-paid family benefits, as well as a Flexible Health and Wellness Spending Account (up to $200/yr).Quick Apply
