The Maintenance Head leads and manages the mechanical department and ensures the most efficient use of internal resources, contractors and cost. One of the primary objectives of the Maintenance Head is to improve the value of all Company assets through increased reliability and lower operating costs while allowing the operation of the equipment to meet production requirements.The Maintenance Head assists in the establishment of plant policies and procedures concerning the maintenance department and is responsible for ensuring that maintenance staff are knowledgeable of plant policies and procedures and follow them accordingly. The incumbent has a responsibility to develop effective employee relations, competent subordinates, and collaborative relations amongst the maintenance employees and with other departments.Responsibilities:Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example.Ensures safe and healthy working conditions in the mechanical department under his/her responsibilityEnsures safe work practices by co-workers, employees and contractors in all areas of work, in his or her area of responsibilityReports and investigates accidents/incidents in the department. Implements follow-up actions to eliminate repeat incidents and to improve departmental safety. Follow-ups as per Exshaw procedures.Implements and improves upon an effective health and safety action plan including training, communication, audits, aligned with the HSMS developed by the Country organization & the Group.Leads and participates in a plant Safety Team and other Safety activities such as HSMS audits with other Business Units.Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety rules and country regulationsKeeps her/himself apprised of any new OHS regulations.Housekeeping:Sets and enforces the maintenance of housekeeping and safety standards at job sites and shops.Embraces a continuous improvement mentality for housekeeping to eliminate spillages and systemic housekeeping issues.Environment, Land & Community Relations:Establishes the environment as a priority.Ensures that all mechanical activities are completed in an environmentally responsible manner; ensures all local, provincial and federal regulations are met or exceeded by following Lafarge best practices and that the conditions of site permits are strictly adhered to.Participate, support and respect Plant/Community initiatives. eg: Tours, Open Houses, community engagement, etc.Financial Management:Promotes a culture of performance. Strives to deliver the best maintenance at the best total ownership cost. Continuously looks for opportunities for improvement, challenges and supports the planners, supervisors, and tradespeople in seeking the most efficient use of company resources.Supports the mechanical maintenance-related component of the Plant Development Plan (PDP).Identifies and implements Maintenance cost reduction savings.Performs a monthly financial review and forecast with team. Closely manages overtime and emergency costs, communicates and builds actions accordingly to improve on contractor usage, FTE numbers, shift patterns, and trade tickets.Develops and executes a maintenance schedule with costs, assists the Maintenance Manager in forecasting costs on a weekly and monthly basis.Performs monthly/weekly variance analysis (actual vs. budget and actual vs. forecast) and uses other cost control techniques.Manages budgetary accountability within department.Operational:Primary objective is to supervise the plant operators in order to reach the budgeted program within safety, quality, environmental and cost constraints.Responsible for planning maintenance schedules, optimizing equipment utilization, and ensuring adherence to standard maintenance procedures.Develops and implements a process to effectively schedule and coordinate the activities of mechanical maintenance with due regard to production requirements, the priorities of others and overall plant maintenance requirements.Adheres to the Cement Industrial Framework (CIF) Maintenance program; implements, maintains and improves program elements.Leads daily and weekly planning meetings for the purpose of developing and trouble-shooting the scheduling and coordination activities with other functions at the plant to ensure the most effective use of resources possible.Determines how the job will be performed and who will perform which activities.Solves scheduling problems related to the day-to-day execution of work assignments.Regularly checks on the status of repairs, maintenance and projects to ensure they are being completed on schedule and within budget.Leads the STO shutdown management program.Directs and holds accountable the Supervisors and Planners to their job roles and responsibilities.Redresses plant emergencies and breakdowns with the appropriate resources.Will address issues that may cause delays, find solutions and make adjustments accordingly, as well as keep management informed of issues and progress.Supervises contractors and maintenance teams directly when required.Is available outside of normal work hours in case of emergency repairs, and is responsible for assessing the situation and assigning the call out.Embraces RCA process and actively drives and promotes it within the department and plant.Works closely with the Preventive Maintenance Head, Electrical Head, and other members of the Maintenance Department.Works closely and collaboratively with other departments, Production, Quarry, Process, Quality, and Environment.Works closely with Procurement to establish BCC sourcing, competitive TPS contracts, operational supplies and services contracts.Provides leadership at the daily and weekly operations meeting to identify and resolve reliability issues with plant equipment.Assist in the planning of maintenance activities in a way that is compatible with the overall operation of the plant.Participate in the preparation of the annual budget and Plant Development Plan.Participate in the preparation of the Departmental goals and objectives.Provide assistance to others performing other problem solving activities.Recommends procedural improvements to the Maintenance Manager.Administrative:Ensures compliance with the Collective Agreement within the department and manages all labour issues within the department in compliance with the Collective Agreement.Manage administration of the Collective Agreement, the handling of grievances and the application of discipline.With HR, posts bids and fills vacancies in the department as required.Actively promotes a diverse and inclusive workforce.Administers contractors and supplier contract vendors.Dimensions:Direct Reports: (5) Planners, SupervisorsIndirect Reports: Hourly (25):Volumes: 2,400,000 tonnesQuarry, 2 kilns, 3 raw mills, 3 finish millsRelationships with others/jobs:The Maintenance Head has a duty to coordinate with other departments to determine the repair and maintenance requirements of machinery, equipment, and facilities.
