Job Description

SAIT’s Information Technology Services department handles all software and hardware needs, as well as technological and networking issues for both employees and students who rely heavily on computer systems across our campuses. Technical support — which includes help with computer hardware and software technical problems, email, audio-visual needs and more — is available to everyone at SAIT, whether the problem occurs at home or on-campus.The OpportunityThe Information and Technology Services (ITS) Department provides the technology and innovation needed to assure SAIT student, faculty and staff success. To achieve our goals, ITS needs energetic, forward thinking leaders that strive for excellence. The ITS Department is seeking a Manager, Database and Middleware. Under the direction of the Director, Applications and Infrastructure, this position is responsible for leadership of the design, implementation, operation, and day-to-day stability of SAIT’s Oracle and SQL Server database and middleware environments.This role is a hands-on technical leader, manager, and change maker which may require afterhours, shift work, and long hours during enterprise implementation and other project deliverables.The Role

    • Provide leadership and expertise in the management of all Database and Middleware activities to include deployment, upgrades, patching and vulnerability remediation
    • Develop job descriptions and evaluate potential candidates for open positions
    • Define and guide team to ensure performance excellence and quality outcomes, as well as provide day-to-day oversight of the team and staff development
    • Identify and implement Industry Best Practices for Database and Middleware components
    • Interact effectively with Senior Management and institutional partners
    • Actively participate in SAIT’s IT strategic planning
    • Continuously seek innovative ways to improve SAIT’s technology landscape
    • Evaluate new solutions and platforms for fit to SAIT’s application environment
    • Participate in ITS budget planning and responsibly manage assigned budget
    • Exemplify SAIT’s Core Values and Competencies
    • Ensure institutional partner satisfaction with efficient team and individual troubleshooting and remediation activities
    • Create and draft reports for presentations, weekly/monthly status, outage reports
    • Manage all aspects of Banner User Application Security and provisioning of direct access accounts to application databases to ensure alignment with security protocols and Auditor General requirements
    • Lead APAS & MTS Consortium meetings, communications and facilitate all integration updates
    • Manage Vendor relationships and licensing including Oracle, SQL Server, supporting applications, as well as academic memberships.
    • Special projects and duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
    • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Technology or similar (Master’s degree in technology related field or business preferred)
    • 10+ years of experience with Database & Middleware Technologies
    • 5+ years of experience managing in a technical environment
    • 5+ years of experience in higher education IT
    • Experience with all aspects of the systems development life cycle and hands-on experience with a structured solutions delivery methodology
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
    • Experience with ITIL practices
    • Experience with Change Management standards and Industry best practices
    • Experience in managing and coordinating diverse technical teams
