We made air travel more affordable for Canadians and now were going global.Join us and love where you’re going.Remote Work:This position is eligible for remote work, within Calgary, under our mobile workforce program.GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:Reporting to the Sr. Manager-People Services, the Manager-Payroll Services is responsible to lead and motivate a team of Payroll and Time Management professionals to process full cycle payroll for two companies with employees across Canada. The Manager is required to work closely with multi-functional teams across the organization to identify risks, mitigate expenses, ensure accuracy and compliance to provincial, federal, and payroll legislation.SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES & KEY ACTIVITIES:

  • Provide leadership, planning, and direction to payroll and time management teams, including the coordination and allocation of workloads, managing staff performance, managing compliance to processing and error targets, & oversight of operations
  • Oversee special projects related to payroll and time management including audits, year-end reporting, and processing bulk manual / off-cycle pays
  • Identify, influence, create, and assist in the implementation of new processes and procedures in partnership with IT, Finance, Benefits, People Services, and Governance to ensure efficient, compliant, and scalable processes
  • Establish & monitor controls to ensure compliance to payroll processes and legislative requirements, including standard payroll procedures; and working with federal and provincial labour and tax agencies towards problem resolution
  • Partner with WestJet scheduling teams across the organization to understand their data and rules, provide guidance, and recommend solutions to ensure controls and governance around data are followed
  • Manage agreement rules, compliance, and data required for investigations for unionized employees including dues, deductions, and remittances, and pay-related grievances corrections
  • Troubleshooting payroll and time attendance systems issues in collaboration with the HRIS, IT, Finance, and Payroll and Time Management teams
KEY COMPETENCIES - SKILLS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (equivalent experience will be given consideration)
  • Payroll Compliance Certification and Certified Payroll Manager required
  • JDE Oracle payroll system knowledge required
  • 5+ years in a leadership position
  • 8+ years experience in running in-house Payroll
  • 5+ years in Time Management
  • Expertise in payroll, benefits and taxation, and applicable legislative requirements
  • Strong strategic planning, analytics, and process development skills
  • Ability to work with and influence cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Working experience with Excel: formulas, VLookups, pivots
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive information with diplomacy, confidentiality, and a sense of discretion
  • Effectively able to prioritize and direct high volumes of work within strict timelines
