Job Description

Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Marketing Accounting Analyst position. This position will report directly to the Global Marketing Accounting Manager and will be based in Calgary. The successful incumbent will assist in market analysis, reporting and administrative matters associated with the marketing of Vermilion’s Oil, Gas and NGL production. This includes maintaining databases for market pricing, fundamental models, and reporting, as well as preparing presentation materials and ad hoc reports.Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and evaluate corporate accruals and review settlement documentation for all Marketing related activities
  • Evaluate and advise on net revenue oil pools for production accounting group
  • Assist in the review of Vermilion’s international contract pricing and settlement
  • Maintain group databases, including market pricing, hedge position, and fundamental models
  • Perform data acquisition, data reporting, and chart/graph creation
  • Assist in developing tools to further improve efficiency pertaining to deal entry, monitoring hedge portfolio exposures and risks, and market data analysis
  • Provide support for financial derivative valuation and position tracking
  • Assist with regulatory, compliance and credit matters
  • Develop and prepare presentation materials for both regularly scheduled and ad hoc meetings
  • Liaison with Treasury/Finance/Accounting groups on Marketing related activities
  • Provide support to Physical Oil, Gas and NGL Marketing as needed
  • Any other assignments or projects when requested
First Year Deliverables
  • Support to other areas in the Marketing team, including Physical Oil, Gas, NGL and Accounting
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of commodity markets, marketing group functions, and the Company overall
  • Under the direction of the Global Marketing Accounting Manager, assist in the streamlining of complex spreadsheet models and group databases
Essential Experience & Skills
  • New graduate or 3+ years of related industry experience
  • Understanding of financial derivatives is an asset
  • Excellent quantitative analytical capabilities
  • An understanding of economic theories and principles, and fundamental statistical analysis will be considered assets
  • High level of proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in process improvement and automation (Visual Basic, database management, etc.) considered an asset
  • A self-starter who is detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills is required
  • Ability to work independently and also in cooperation with a larger team
  • Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment
Education
  • University Degree in Business or Commerce
  • Working towards or completed CPA designation
