Job Description

Your Opportunity:Reporting to the Manager and clinical supervisor, the Mental Health Clinician is a member of the Corrections Transition Team that works in an integrated and collaborative way to improve treatment and support access for addiction and mental health clients who are leaving provincial corrections facilities and transitioning to the community. The multidisciplinary outreach team is comprised of nurses, social workers, psychologists, and addiction counselors who work together to facilitate access to community appropriate resources. All Corrections Transition Team members share a common approach to providing continuity of care while also contributing unique discipline- specific competencies and perspectives to ensure a holistic and effective approach to service delivery.Description:As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students.

Required Qualifications:This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists. Social Workers and Psychologists: Completion of bachelor degree in Social Work or Psychology. Active or eligible registration with the Alberta College of Social Work (ACSW) or the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses: Completion of an accredited nursing or psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).Additional Required Qualifications:3-5 years’ experience in the addiction and mental health field. Community outreach and crisis intervention experience. Knowledge of mental health/mental illness across populations and mental health diagnosis. Knowledge of addiction treatment and recovery across populations. Knowledge of the mental health system and resources within Alberta Health Services-Calgary Zone. Strong assessment and intervention skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the continuum of services is essential. Ability to work confidently, independently and within collaborative partnerships is essential. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a timely manner. Working knowledge of Mental Health Act and CTO legislation. Regional travel is expected.Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of the criminal justice system/arrest and detention processes. Working knowledge of Forensic and Correctional systems Solid understanding of correctional facilities and population served.Quick Apply
