We are paying attention. The Mission Critical Environment (MCE) team plays an integral role in transforming our networks to serve our customer’s needs. The MCE Power & Cooling team provides strategic and tactical planning support as it relates to infrastructure, and drives corporate energy waste reduction and management best practices for TELUS. Our team members are expected to think critically about our current infrastructure and processes, and turn these thoughts into actionable strategies that can be used to help define roadmaps that will allow our network to support our customers’ needs today and tomorrow. Our team’s ability to approach current processes and programs with a strategic mindset is paramount to supporting the reliability of the TELUS network.As part of this, we are involved in several different areas, including:

  • Infrastructure planning – upgrading and replacement
  • Outages and major failures – key learnings and expert advice
  • Energy management and waste reduction – less waste and maximized utilization = decreased load pressures and environmental footprint
What you’ll do
  • This role will be responsible for Power Systems Planning, Capital Management, Business Case Development, Creating and Releasing Tactical Project Plans, Resource to Design / Engineering, Business Support for Hosting and TELUS Collocation, and Liaise with Standards to Develop Common Standards and Practices for Power and Cooling Systems.
  • As a member of the MCE Infrastructure team you will be an integral part of the Tactical and Demand Planning Team. The MCE Tactical and Demand Planner focuses on network environment planning that supports a 12 – 18 month planning cycle. The Tactical planner efficiently maintains upgrades and grows TELUS infrastructure in governance with capital management processes. This is achieved in coordination and collaboration with various TELUS stakeholders, including MCE’s Strategic and Standards Planning teams.
What you bring
  • Must be familiar with the following equipment AC Power systems, DC Power Plants, DC-AC Inverters, DC Battery Strings, DC Power Distribution elements (PDI, BDFB), UPS, backup Generators, Fuel Systems and Monitoring with main focus on AC infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code
  • Working knowledge of how HVAC/mechanical systems interact and are interdependent with power systems in a network building
  • IT Systems; SAP, Microsoft Office Applications (with aptitude to learn / conceptualize the functionality of new systems being introduced, etc.)
  • Technical writing / documentation with good writing skills, Business Plan development and economic feasibility analysis
  • Project management fundamentals / Project life cycle, planning and financial skills
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously improve their working environment, including processes and tools (i.e. proactively seeks out to fill gaps and overcome challenges)
  • Effective leadership skills and fundamentals
  • Strong presentation, oral and written general communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate with others and deal with a variety of contacts, both internal and external to the organization diversification within the team
  • Engineering degree in Electrical discipline, or if in another engineering field, must possess strong, related Electrical / Power experience
  • Licensed professional engineer, or Professional Engineer designation in progress
  • College / technical diploma in related field with strong professional/technical experience will also be considered
Great-to-haves
  • Experience in a planning capacity/role is an asset
  • Strong consideration for those with communications/ICT experience (e.g. telecom, cable, data center)
  • Knowledge of telecommunications networks systems as related to Transport, Access, Switching and IP/Data, and/or data center environments
