Position OverviewThe Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion within the Office of the Provost and VP Academic is currently seeking a Full-time Regular OEDI Advisor, Equity, Human Rights and Community Engagement.Equity, diversity and inclusion are important values, practices, and priorities at the University of Calgary. They are highlighted in many existing initiatives, policies and strategic plans. Through our Eyes High Strategy 2017-22, respect for equity, diversity and inclusion support our commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching and learning, research and scholarship, inclusive hiring and institutional culture, and community engagement. It has developed an institutional Canada Research Chair (CRC) Equity Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, which is intended to guide efforts for sustaining the participation of and/or addressing the underrepresentation of individuals from the four federally designated groups (FDGs) women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible/racialized minorities, as well as members of LGBTQ2S.The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI) is committed to creating Equitable Pathways, and to proactively identifying institutional barriers, practices, and formal and informal processes that may have an adverse effect on the recruitment and retention of individuals from the federally designated groups (FDGs). With a commitment to EDI data transparency, setting EDI objectives and measurement strategies, positive support structures and services are being established to advance Equitable Pathways in the university.Working in the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and reporting to the Vice Provost (EDI), the EDI Advisor on Equity and Human Rights will provide expertise in support of strengthening human rights and EDI policies, practices, and outcomes, as well as public engagement to advance Equitable Pathways. It is anticipated that this position will require strong organizational skills working across portfolios and coordinating tasks and timelines.The nature of work requires the handling of complex and confidential issues, and in some cases conflicts, that require direct involvement and resolution. The EDI and Human Rights Advisor liaises with staff from within the Offices of the Provost, Vice-President Research, Human Resources, as well as across faculties, schools, and campus units. This position operates on a regular work week schedule (Monday to Friday). The incumbent must have a demonstrated ability to set priorities, act decisively and to exercise a high degree of initiative and judgment on a wide range of issues, using discretion and maintaining confidentiality in the execution of their dutiesThe primary purposes of the Advisor in Human Rights and Equity position will be to deliver expert advice and guidance, and develop and implement plans to ensure that the university meets its human rights and EDI obligations by advancing inclusive excellence through Equitable Pathways. The position plays a critical role in promoting a culture of respectful engagement, and in guiding efforts to adopt and assess implementation of human rights and EDI-related policies in the workplace, and in teaching, research and engagement.Position DescriptionSummary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):Process Development and Program Support (30%)Support the Vice Provost (EDI) in developing the strategic institutional EDI action planDevelop and implement processes and frameworks to achieve and monitor EDI progressSupport equitable and inclusive recruitment practices in consultation with Human ResourcesMaintain in-depth understanding of EDI requirements, in particular as it relates to innovations in educational equity, Dimensions EDI, and the CRC EDI action plan;Develop human rights and EDI content for the OEDI administrative webpages and other communication materials;Facilitate the broader development of EDI practices and resources applicable across the campus community.Analysis and Reporting (30%)Support the development and implementation of processes related to EDI data gathering and processes to advance Equitable Pathways;Develop and conduct environmental scans to identify barriers for equity deserving groups and evaluate their access/barriers to institutional opportunities and resources;Research, write and deliver strategic documentation and supporting policies, practices and actionsInform the need for new actions and track progress in sustaining a healthy and inclusive environment for equity-deserving groups.Guidance and Training (20%)Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate human rights and EDI processes across various levels of administration including senior leadershipInitiate and lead the development of guidance and training resources on such topics as EDI, decolonization, intersectionality, unconscious bias, and strategies to support Equitable Pathways higher education.Develop, plan, facilitate, and evaluate workshops and training related to EDILeadership (15%)Support the Vice Provost (EDI) in leading and implementing organizational change to support adoption of promising EDI practices and strategies;Represent the OEDI team to relevant internal stakeholders including the Provost Office, faculties and schools, Research Services, Human Resources, and various EDI-related committees, and external stakeholders;Act as a resource to peers in the OEDI, including providing ongoing coaching and mentorship.Other Duties as Assigned (5%)Qualifications / Requirements:A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required, and a Master's Degree is preferred.Postgraduate studies/experience in the areas of human rights, and EDI;Minimum of 5 years experience developing and facilitating EDI programs is required, preferably in the postsecondary sector;Demonstrated track record of working effectively with and for members of equity-deserving groups;Demonstrated commitment, proactive efforts, and positive outcomes in implementing human rights and EDI actions and strategies;Knowledge of promising accessibility and EDI approaches, and provincial and federal human rights codes;Experience in EDI and human rights programs and strategies for post-secondary initiatives;Experience in developing process and monitoring frameworks, and proficient in evaluation methods to measure effectiveness of EDI and human rights approaches;Experience in organizational change management and communication planning;Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively to deliver EDI and human rights-related objectives;Excellent presentation and workshop facilitation skills;Ability to work independently, planning and prioritizing own work, in a team setting;Strong communication skills with the ability to convey EDI and human rights priorities and build relationships in a variety of settings, units, and diverse demographics;Strong attention to detail;Expectation to be willing to learn about and implement university and relevant external processes.Application Deadline: May 19, 2021We would like to thank all applicants in advance for submitting their resumes.
