Reporting to the Digital Managing Editor and the Online Supervisor you will be part of a team of dedicated reporters responsible to keep the Global Calgary website current and relevant by writing original stories and curating Global News content.Responsibilities:Pitch, chase and write stories for Globalnews.ca with a focus on Alberta, specifically Calgary.Generate original story ideasManage the front page of the Global Calgary websitePublish video content to website and social media channelsAvailable to work weekdays, evenings and weekendsBe able to meet strict deadlines, and work co-operatively with others in a teamwork settingWorking knowledge of new media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc..) and related applicationsWillingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operationOther duties as assignedAbout YouWhat We Need From You:Degree or diploma in Journalism or Broadcasting from a recognized institution and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a small/medium market.Familiarly with online publishing tools (e.g. Wordpress)Strong writing and storytelling skillsUnderstanding of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formatsWorking knowledge of new media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc), and related applicationsAbility to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines in a high-tech environmentProven abilities as a team player with a positive attitudeSelf-starter with good communication skillsFamiliarity with Canadian Press style would be considered an assetWhy CorusCorus is a driving force in the media industry with a diverse portfolio of strong brands that entertain and inform audiences through great storytelling and compelling content, reaching millions of people around the world every day.We have a passionate drive to connect with the world around us: to express, to share, to be part of people's lives.
