Job Description

POSITION SUMMARYConsistent with Strategic Corporate Objectives, the Operation Manager provides the leadership to safely and effectively manage all plant operations to achieve maximum efficiencies within cost & quality standards. This role is also responsible to know and exceed customer requirements for cost, quality and delivery. This position will be working with some automated equipment as well as responsibility for the distribution of drywall finish good across multiple provinces.ESSENTIAL DUTIESResponsibilities include the safe and efficient utilization of manpower, materials, equipment and in-process inventories in the production and distribution of both manufactured and inventoried products.

  • Champion world class processes through leadership and training;
  • Maintains and monitors housekeeping practices;
  • Ensures adherence to plant rules and safety regulations and coach employees to achieve high standards;
  • Evaluates daily production reports regarding man-hours, machine hours, output, quality and material usage as compared to standards. Reviews non-compliance areas to determine causes of variances from standard and develop solutions to resolve;
  • Responsible for elimination of human error losses and the mentoring/development of plant employees;
  • Justify, identify, commission and implement capital equipment;
  • Works with warehouse personnel to achieve optimum product mix and delivery OTIF;
  • Ensure equipment maintenance schedules coincide with production schedules;
  • Assist the plant manager in the preparation of the annual budget;
  • Recommend capital projects and work with technical service personnel in the engineering, design, procurement and installation/commissioning of capital projects;
  • Has wide latitude to exercise independent judgment and discretion relative to production activity and distribution within approved policies and procedures;
  • External contacts involve technical, sales, supply chain and marketing personnel, vendor representatives, as well as customer and governmental representatives;
  • Problem solving activities involve changes in products, processes, equipment, shipping schedules and training.
Reports directly to the Plant Manager.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with the plant administrator to purchase raw materials;
  • Provide assistance to warehouse personnel as needed;
  • Works with customer service and supply chain groups to insure efficient production scheduling;
  • Works with quality and technical groups on compliance and conformance to specifications;
  • Acquire and maintain plant licenses and permits;
  • Manage facility and grounds maintenance activities; and,
  • Other duties as required.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • Exercise good judgment in the utilization of manpower, work in progress and operational adjustments; and,
  • Has wide latitude to exercise independent judgment and discretion relative to production activity within approved policies and procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
  • Provides leadership and supervision directly and indirectly for up to 20 employees at full capacity;
  • Directly supervise engineering, maintenance personnel, production technicians as well as oversees mechanical and electrical contractors; and,
  • Coach and develop employees and conduct succession planning to assure sustained performance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Eng. license holder;
  • Trained and experienced in World Class Manufacturing (WCM) techniques; and,
  • Career objective to become a manufacturing plant manager;
  • Experience with or trained in ISO standards;
  • Experience in process programming or HMI applications;
  • Experience with self-directed teams;
  • Superior written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent mechanical reasoning and practical mechanical skills;
  • Innovation and adaptability; and,
  • Customer and employee focus.

  • Occasional exposure to industrial chemicals, noise, dust, and temperature changes;
  • The operation is capable of running continuously, 24/7;
  • Work hours may vary depending on business needs and project deadlines; and,
  • May require weekend or after hours support of plant operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to access plant equipment and work in an unconditioned plant environment;
  • Will occasionally be required to travel;
  • Occasional bending, twisting, gripping and lifting up to 50 lbs; and,
  • May require considerable walking, climbing stairs/ladders.
