Someone who is equally passionate about serving the community and achieving operational success alongside our dedicated and loyal employees.Located in Calgary and under the direction of the Operations Manager or General Manager, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for achieving the prescribed company objectives for safety, efficiency, quality, and inventory accuracy. Particular emphasis is placed on the management of Team Members and the implementation of proactive operations action plans specific to receiving, warehousing and shipping product in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectivesThe primary function of the Operations Supervisor is to consistently promote the Canada Cartage Logistics Solutions (CCLS) Mission, Values and Goals while assuming the following:Responsibilities:

  • Space Utilization/Flow Planning
  • Manage Employees including performance, conduct, quality and payroll
  • Communications
  • Labor Planning
  • Customer service
  • Shipping/Receiving
  • Supervise safety, security and housekeeping
  • Assist in inventory management
  • Identify potential discrepancies in inventories and resolve
  • Adherence to and understanding of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures and GMP’s
  • Accountable to the Operations Manager or General Manager for the efficient performance of all assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Co-ordinates activities with co-workers, Team Members, contracted personnel jurisdictional agencies and other visitors to the operation
  • Accompanies visitors on site visits as required
  • Continually maintain a professional and courteous relationship with internal and external customers and ensure that all personnel do the same
Manage report preparation
  • Ensure that all records and reports for client activity are prepared on a timely basis and effectively maintained
  • Review productivity and quality standards on a daily basis and monitor achievement
  • Authorize team member payroll records ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Space Utilization
  • Identifies opportunities to realign inventories to increase operational efficiency
  • Works with Team Members to implement warehouse realignments
Management of the operation
  • Provides direct daily supervision to the warehouse team members to ensure the safe, clean and efficient operation of the warehouse that meets service standards and operational goals
  • Assist in training and motivating team members to increase operational effectiveness
  • On a daily basis, develop and implement shipping and receiving work schedules and assignments to ensure effective and efficient operation
  • Apply sound communication and team member involvement techniques such as task force participation, and committee representation
Manage employee performance
  • Direct the operation of the warehouse team members to achieve prescribed objectives
  • Develop and maintain a productive team by participating in the implementation of programs for recruitment, training and professional development
  • Match the skills and abilities of personnel to the work, which is required to be performed
  • Set an example to all team members and peers of professional and ethical work practices
  • Utilize performance-tracking systems such as Attendance, Production and Quality to identify employees who require follow-up
  • Utilize performance evaluation systems to identify team members’ strengths, to identify areas in which they require improvement, to identify training needs and where required, to administer discipline. This includes coaching and completion of Personal Improvement Plans (PIP’s)
  • Ensure team member training is conducted using Standard Operating Procedures
  • Provide timely follow-up on team member performance in the areas of attendance, production, quality, safety and housekeeping
Communications
  • Drive and facilitate all culture building initiatives that support overall business objectives and contribute to making CCLS, a preferred place to work
  • Conduct start-up meetings at the beginning of every shift
  • Receive, review and respond to team member complaints by the end of the shift in which they are received
  • Where necessary, get input and advice from other Team Leaders or other members of the CCLS management group
Manpower planning
  • Receives, approves and documents all Team Member requests for time off
  • Reviews forecast volumes and Team Member absence to determine required manning for future shifts
  • Works with the Human Resources to coordinate and monitor Team Members on modified duty assignments
  • Schedules overtime as required meeting production and cost objectives
Supervise safety, security and housekeeping
  • Observes work performance of Team Members and ensures work is performed in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Identifies problem employees and takes corrective action to ensure the employee does not present a hazard to himself or other workers in the workplace, in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Certifies the competency of Team Members in the performance of their assigned duties
  • Conducts accident investigations and ensures all accidents are investigated in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and company policy
  • Evaluate housekeeping, security and safety standards on a daily basis
  • Review warehouse operations daily to ensure the warehouse is neat, secure and organized
  • Monitor operations to ensure that damage to product, equipment and the facility are prevented
  • Reinforces Team Member safety awareness by communicating equipment/procedure changes to Team Members. Provides general communication on relevant safety issues and concerns
  • Responds and follows-up on safety concerns brought forward by team members
  • Tours facility daily to identify and address any equipment deficiencies or hazards, which may pose a danger to anyone at our operation
  • Perform random security searches, i.e. lockers search and random drug screens
  • Ensure contractors and visitors comply with CCLS health and safety security policies
Personal Development
  • Works with Operations Manager or General Manager to identify personal and operational goals
  • Works with Operations Manager or General Manager to identify personal development requirements
  • Completes training required to continually improve personal performance.
Core Competencies and Qualification:
  • A college diploma in business administration or related logistics field with some experience, or, an equivalent amount of technical training, warehouse operations experience and experience supervising employees within a progressive employee relation’s environment
  • Must possess front-line supervision experience in addition to demonstrating skills in leadership, organization and communication as necessary
  • Must be capable of applying effective communication skills orally and in writing
  • Must have proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in and a solid understanding of warehousing and distribution
  • Must be familiar with all material handling equipment
  • Must possess knowledge of all appropriate health and safety legislation
  • Must be capable of coordinating the training of subordinates to ensure the adequate development of work skills
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have a demonstrated record of providing excellence in customer service
  • Successfully pass a background check
