Job Description

Job DescriptionChef & Childcare Worker We are looking for a chef and childcare worker in our childcare centre for our Little Treasures Inglewood location!This position will entail being the chef for the program as well as assisting in the classrooms for breaks and classroom assistance. At this time only part time hours are required in the kitchen as the centre is currently registered at approximately ~40 children, with a potential capacity of 82 children.Position with shift hours based on the needs of the centre and at the discretion of the Director. The centre operating hours are Monday to Friday 6:00am to 6:00pm. Closed statutory holidays and one week at Christmas as pre-determined by the Owner at the beginning of each year.A Chef is required, but not limited to the following duties as well as ALL other assigned duties from the Director:A Chef is responsible for some menu planning with the Director/Owner, daily preparation of nutritional meals and snacks served to the children in accordance with the Canada Food Guide. Responsible for making serving adjustments to the age groups and number of children enrolled each day. The kitchen is to be managed and the work of the chef is to be conducted in strict compliance with Alberta Health Services and Child Care Licensing Regulations. The chef works in consultation with the Director to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen and its coordination with the other rooms in the centre.

  • Ensure the kitchen is organized, clean, safe, and is in hygienic conditions at all times
  • Deliver and collect lunch/snack trays to/from all rooms at specific times
  • Complete clean up after each meal (ie. floors/dishes/counter tops, etc.)
  • Regular inventory of kitchen equipment and supplies
  • Each week supply a grocery list in consideration with the centre’s budget and consultation of the Director.
  • Maintain open communication with employees and parents/guardians regarding children’s dietary restrictions and allergies
  • Assist in first aid as required
  • Assist in the classrooms as required by the Director in order to enhance or maintain child to employee ratios
  • Attend employee meetings
  • Completes all necessary paperwork
Sample Menu:Morning Snack- cereal; Lunch- tuna melt with veggies; Afternoon Snack- homemade banana breadMorning Snack- oatmeal; Lunch- pulled pork, rice, and veggies; Afternoon Snack- naan bread with tzatzikiJob Requirements: - First Aide & CPR- Criminal Record Clearance & Vulnerable Sector Search- Food Safety & Handling Certification- Child Care cooking experience preferred- Child Care Certification preferred (if do not have one, a Level 1 certification will be required to be obtained.
