ABOUT THE LEFTOVERS FOUNDATIONThe Leftovers Foundation is Western Canada’s largest charitable food redirection organization. We have a dual mission to reduce food waste and increase food access. Our largest program is our Food Rescue App, which mobilizes community volunteers to connect vendors who have excess food to service agencies feeding hungry people. We also work with local chefs to upcycle large donations of food items that cannot be used by service agencies into new food products through our ANEW program, and to connect community members who have excess produce from backyard gardens to service agencies in need through our Home Harvest program. To learn more about the actions we’re taking, visit https://rescuefood.caPURPOSEThe part-time controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of Leftovers. This includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. The controller is also responsible for enhancing the accuracy of the companys reported financial results, and ensuring that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:Accounting OperationsDeveloping internal control guidelines, policies and procedures for budget accounting, cash and credit management, administration, and other financial activitiesEnsuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and professional standardsOversight and processing of weekly A/P and A/R (in collaboration with CEO)Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual auditFinancial ReportingPreparing,presenting and analyzing periodic financial statementsCreate reports that help senior leadership understand company financialsAssist with the production of the annual budget and ongoing forecastingCalculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to managementPrepare documentation for external year-end financialsContinuously review and revise processes/guidelines to meet organizational needsFinancial Record KeepingRecord bookkeeping in QuickBooks, includes:Recording Accounts Receivable and Accounts PayableRecording depreciation of assetsRecording staff pay separated by job roleReview general ledger accounts, preparing and adjusting journal entriesPerform account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statementsAnswer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting dataMaintaining general ledger chart of accountsMonitor policies and procedures for financial record keeping, identify and suggest improvements for accounting reporting and recording proceduresQualifications and Experience:Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration or FinanceAccounting or Financial Designation/Certification required (e.g. CA, CPA)Adept at using QuickBooks onlineKnowledge of ASPE and GAAPTakes initiative and demonstrates ownership and exceptional follow-throughExtremely dependable and feel comfortable working in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrates attention to detail in analysesTo Apply:If this sounds like an opportunity you’d like to be a part of, we’d love to hear from you.
