As someone with excellent communication skills and business acumen, you will thrive in our fast-paced and agile environment.Your opportunityDillon’s Community Planning and Design technical group is looking for a Junior Planner to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals in the Alberta/North Team. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.Responsibilities:What your day will look likeTechnical Execution (85%)

• Assist with planning assignments related to community and regional land use planning (community plans, zoning bylaws, area structure plans, and other regulatory land use plans)
• Prepare agendas and schedules, record meeting minutes and write memos for various types of meetings
• Assist with developing/coordinating public and agency consultation programs as well as and participate in events
• Work closely with clients, including local governments, to build effective working relationships and respond effectively to requests
• Contribute to planning or policy projects including research, report writing, fieldwork and stakeholder, rights holder and regulatory consultation
• Support policy development for land use plans and other community plans and projects, as needed, based on inputs from research and engagement
• Work with and support intermediate and senior planners in carrying out approvals/permitting processes for a range of planning related projects, potentially across the Country
• Ensuring professionalism and personal accountability for time management, quality control, troubleshooting of project work, and meeting timelines and budget

Administration and Learning and Development (15%)

• Contributions to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations, committees and events
• Professional development through participation in the Early Career Development Program and implementing an Independent Development Plan
• Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:What you will need to succeed

• A degree in planning, geography or a related field
• Strong writing skills are essential to this role – must be proficient in report and plan writing and able to prepare high-quality deliverables
• Ability to think critically and strategically
• Responsible, organized, accountable, and committed to excellence on all levels
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
• Versatile and adaptable with ability to work in a self-directed, multidisciplinary team setting
• 1+ years’ related work experience, preferably in a Planning related environment (or similar)
• Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)

Experience:

• Familiarity with municipal planning policy and legislation and the land development process
• Familiar with local, Provincial and Federal agencies permitting and approvals processes
• Participation in working with Indigenous Groups and Communities
• Involvement with remote communities, working with limited access to services
• Preparing public communications and/or engagement programs and materials, ideally with hands-on experience in: strategy design, traditional and/or digital communications and promotions, event logistics, and facilitation
• Skills in graphic design and presentation, including: GIS, PowerPoint and Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), is considered an asset
