The successful candidate will support daily operational and logistical requirements related to oil scheduling and delivery via rail.The successful candidate is a critical thinker with strong analytical skills, clear concise communication, organizational skills, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. This individual will have a solid logistical background dealing with trucking and rail.Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:Schedule physical movements of heavy oil via unit-train railWork closely with internal and external groups on all railcar movementsProactively support the Marketing Team and develop a detailed understanding producing assets and logisticsCommunicate regularly with customers and facilitiesProfessionally address all inquiries and questionsDistribute Bill of Landing to customers in a timely mannerWork with internal marketers to find potential sales opportunitiesMonitor customer performance against contracted volumes and facilitate required conversations focusing on customer serviceCoordinate inbound and outbound rail shipments. Track, fleet coordination looking for optimization opportunities, and communication with receiving/shipping terminals and counterpartiesProvide solutions and ideas to maximize and improve profit on existing deals as well as explore hidden value and optionsLiaise with serving railroads to execute shipment of railcars dailyOn-call requirement for after hours and weekendsAssist in negotiating freight rates and service levels with railroad service providers to minimize shipping times, costs and optimize the sales and marketing planAssist in developing models to forecast monthly product movementsAssist in the scheduling and planning of truckingAssist in the management of loading operations, inventory positions, bills of lading and truck ticket balancingAssist in the management of US and Canadian customs documentationIncorporate railcar management software with internal data capture systemsWork with internal marketer to find opportunities for cost savings, efficiencies, provide ad hoc reporting as requiredDesired Skills and Experience:University Degree in Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting preferredMinimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in rail transportation managementProfessional, results-oriented style, with the ability to work independently, prioritize work, multi-task, maintain confidentially and adapt to a rapidly changing business environmentPrevious experience or a willingness to be part of a team that is available to respond to logistics issues at all timesRail experience: specifically, crude by rail and/or unit train experience considered an assetKnowledge of Rail fleet management systems is considered an assetProficient Microsoft Office Suite skills - advanced Excel preferredDetail oriented with very strong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to prioritize and multi-task effectivelyPossess a sense of urgency and accountability, ability to respond to tight deadline requirementsPositive and professional attitude and the ability to work well in a team environmentStrong communication skills with a proven ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writingAbility to demonstrate initiative by undertaking tasks independentlyPrevious experience working with a variety of stakeholdersDemonstrated ability to provide high quality internal and external customer serviceAbility to strategize with senior leaders on short and long-term operations plans
