• Preference for persons with a post-secondary degree or diploma, or working towards a post-secondary degree or diploma, in the social sciences or human services field. Equivalent education, or minimum 3 years experience working with children, youth, and families, will also be considered.
• Knowledge of developmental needs of children and youth
• Ability to work in a respectful and ethical manner and with a strengths-based approach
• Strong communication, problem solving, and leadership skills
• Physical capabilities appropriate for a recreational leader – this position is physically demanding and will include heavy lifting (up to 50lbs), pushing, pulling, running, standing for extended periods of time, and other recreational level activities
• Must have at least a Level 1 Child Care Certification through the Government of Alberta
• Must have current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
• Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (CRIM) and a clear Intervention Record Check (IRC)

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Ensuring the safety and well-being of all children, youth, and families in the program, including group and/or individual behavior management and support
• Providing a safe environment for children, youth, and families to be able to discuss their goals feelings, needs and desires openly
• Planning and implementing creative, purposeful, and age-appropriate activities based on assigned program areas with a focus on developmental needs, and social and emotional skills
• Completing program preparation to accommodate seamless program facilitation
• Facilitating purposeful out of school programs and camps for elementary aged children
• Providing staffing support for kindergarten and preschool programming
• Facilitating programming in a way that incorporates Social and Emotional Learning, Developmental Relationships, Natural Supports Framework, and Trauma Informed Practice
• Developing healthy team dynamics and fostering an environment conducive to integrated service delivery
• Engaging in and modelling respectful and appropriate relationships and professional boundaries with children, youth, community, and staff team
• Ensuring program safety by ensuring programs, supplies, and spaces adhere to safety standards and addressing and reporting any unsafe conditions
• Assisting with registrations, client files and payments
• Maintaining up to date client logs and facility inspections
• Attending and engaging in program specific meetings
• Following and ensuring programming is in alignment with accreditation standards, licensing standards, and health and safety and sanitization standards set by AHS
