Job Description

Position OverviewThe Health and Wellness Lab in the Faculty of Kinesiology invites applications for a Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 13 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.The research assistant (RA) will be full-time in the Health and Wellness Lab, in the Faculty of Kinesiology. Working closely with the Director, the RA will work within a national team to build dissemination and implementation strategies, and conduct research examining the effects of exercise in cancer survivors.Multiple exercise oncology grants, in adults and paediatrics, are ongoing in the Health and Wellness Lab (HWL). The research assistant (RA) hire will provide organizational support for the team activities across multiple projects, including supporting project leads (trainees, research coordinators) on all research and program delivery tasks.The work will involve supporting research activities across the project and may include data management, participant recruitment, ethics submissions, logistical planning, SOP development, program implementation support, and knowledge translation. The incumbent will work directly under the supervision of a research coordinator in the HWL, as well as with current graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.The RA will deal with complex issues requiring excellent time management, the ability to adapt to continuous changes and shifting in priorities and the ability to learn new technologies and techniques as needed. The RA will need communicate effectively between various team members, community partners, and research stakeholders. The successful candidates decisions will contribute to the success of the outcome of the projects.Position DescriptionSummary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):Customer Service:

  • Work in a professional and discreet manner when interacting with cancer survivors.
  • Work with fitness professionals and community partners to build programming options for cancer survivors.
  • Work with health care providers on implementation of exercise into standard cancer care.
  • Responsibility for tasks as assigned by team leads/research coordinator in exercise oncology. Must work effectively with the HWL team members across projects, in a timely manner, and producing high-quality work.
Data Management:
  • Collection, entry, and data cleaning of the participants data.
  • Management of programs within Active Living registration system; Liasing with team members to facilitate program delivery and safety of program participants.
  • Ability to work in REDCap, ethics (TCPS and CORE training required) and Microsoft office suite required.
Administration:
  • Develop and maintain resources within the community and as part of the Alberta Cancer Exercise Programs.
  • Support research and programs under the pediatric exercise oncology team.
  • Must work discreetly and confidentially with patient data.
  • Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and research coordinator.
  • Support exercise maintenance programming.
  • Maintain regular social media and website content.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • High level of effective organizational, time and personal initiative skills, teamwork, accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • 2+ years experience working in a research setting, supporting health behaviour change, and working in a team environment.
  • 2+ years experience with data
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office Suite in particular, data entry (SPSS; REDCap) and report presentations.
  • Understanding of implementation science, academic processes including ethics, grant reporting, and manuscript-writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate research findings for lay audiences.
  • BA/BSc in Kinesiology or related field, Masters of Science Degree in Kinesiology or related field an asset.
  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid Certificates.
  • Strong social media and website maintenance skills required.
