Connect with NRG on Facebook, LinkedIn and follow us on Twitter @nrgenergy.Job Summary:Reporting to the Sr Manager Revenue Assurance for Direct Energy Home (an NRG Company) in Calgary, Settlement Analyst is responsible for wholesale and retail settlement functions of gas and power in Alberta for both Regulated and Competitive, within the Alberta Billing & Collections team. Ensure completion of settlement processing, data analysis, reporting (corporate/financial), internal control testing and support external audits. Additional responsibilities will include monitoring the settlement system for updates as required including liaising with developers and performing user acceptance testing to changes. Supporting the other areas of the business, including but not limited to Accounting, Settlements, Revenue Assurance, FP&A and Business Partnering are also included.Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate maintenance of Direct Energy’s proprietary electricity and gas settlement and revenue assurance systems (NOMAD) with production support staff.
  • Create test plans/cases and perform user acceptance testing for system enhancements and changes.
  • Build and maintain settlement and billing volume balancing schedules as well as other audit schedules. Identify, track, and resolve exceptions as required. Ensure workload is distributed and coordinate cross training of tasks.
  • Support the DER-Finance department in the Regulated Rate Application and numerous audits (financial, risk and controls, regulatory, etc.)
  • Ensure Direct Energy customers receive timely and accurate invoices.
  • Provide reconciliation and analysis of distribution charges for Regulated and Deregulated.
  • Provide key support for external audit of revenue for the Alberta market.
  • Participate in industry and market sessions (AUC Rules 4/21/28) as required.
  • Scheduled and ad hoc reporting and analysis as required for internal processes as well as requests from various departments.
  • Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
  • Open office environment, working in office 1-2 days per week, 3-4 days per week remote
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise.
  • Minimal Travel
Minimum Requirements:
  • Relevant experience with Oracle, MS Access, MS Excel, and SQL (TOAD, SQL Developer, Golden, etc) is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Alberta Utilities Commission rules for tariff bill code, system settlement codes for electricity and natural gas (AUC Rules 4/21/28).
  • SAP / Business Objects / BPC experience a plus
    • Previous experience in a utility billing or customer care environment
