The DHH strategist is a teacher of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing (TODHH).The successful candidate for this position will be accountable for providing effective instruction, advice, strategies, and recommendations to school-based teaching and support staff, parents and to system personnel to improve learning and teaching for deaf and hard of hearing students in accordance with the values and vision of the CBE and the statutory requirements of Alberta Education.QualificationsEducation and Experience

  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Graduate level courses in the area of deaf and hard of hearing education.
  • Five years successful teaching experience
  • Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Signing capability is desirable
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of Alberta Education’s Program of Studies, Standards for Special Education, Amended June 2004 and the Calgary Board of Education’s policies
and directives.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Alberta Education Essential Components of Educational Programming for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (EEC).
  • Well-developed consulting and team building skills.
  • Ability to support professional learning.
  • Sound judgment, reasoning and perspective.
  • Strong commitment to collaboration.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships, to establish rapport and influence various interest groups and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate within a model of Area-based cohorts of schools to advance student learning
  • Provide direct support in schools by working with staff to build capacity
  • Support school teams in the interpretation and analysis of school data
  • Support school teams to create responsive strategies within Professional Learning Communities and grade teams
  • Support school teams in the development of strong school learning team processes.
  • Work with school teams to identify and implement high impact strategies related to the School Development Plan
  • Co-design and co-lead professional learning to build high impact instructional capacity
  • Support the Literacy and Learning programs in the area.
  • Maintain and communicate current knowledge and research
  • Contribute to the creation of protocols, materials, resources and system documents
This is a three year term appointment.All successful candidates will require the ability to travel to various locations within CBE.Salary placement informationAlberta Teachers Association (ATA) | you will also need to complete a Teacher Qualifications Service (TQS) Application Form. TQS is the agency in Alberta responsible for evaluating teachers’ years of education for salary purposes.
