This part-time (10-20 hours per week), fixed-term position is for approximately one year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. The successful research assistant will work closely with Dr. Jared Fletcher, PhD, a Faculty member in the Department of Health and Physical Education, and Director of the Fascicles, Tendons and Energetics Research (FasTER) Laboratory. The research assistant will oversee the direct coordination of all aspects of a research project related to human neuromuscular physiology and mechanics during locomotion, supported by the Principle Investigator, and providing guidance to the research team members (co-investigators, research coordinators, research assistants, graduate trainees and support staff).Responsibilities:

  • Engage in research related to human locomotion in healthy and clinical populations by gathering and synthesizing physiological and biomechanical data.
  • Data collection, management, entry and analyses.
  • Schedule, organize and report on status of research activities, including interaction with and recruitment of research participants.
  • Plan and modify research techniques, procedures, tests and equipment.
  • Draft, develop, and edit research materials for presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in, or recent graduate of, a Health and Physical Education program (eg. Kinesiology, human kinetics, health sciences, etc.)
  • Experience with research techniques in human movement, especially electromyography, would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with research practicums, directed readings or directed studies would be an asset.
  • Ability to perform detailed design, documentation and implementation of moderately complex technological systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine priorities and deadlines independently, make decisions and problem solve.
  • Skills in Microsoft office (word, excel, powerpoint), and statistical software (JASP, SPSS, SigmaPlot, Graphpad) would be an asset.
  • A keen interest in pursuing sport or health sciences and/or academic research as a career.
  • Completion of courses in exercise physiology, biomechanics or biomedical engineering would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or joint hypermobility would be asset.
