Now is an exciting time to join our crew and advance YYC as one of Canada’s best airports!THE TEAMOur team of Heavy-Duty Mechanics have the exciting opportunity to oversee the maintenance program for a fleet of unique equipment specific to our airport. This team is an integral part of our entire airside snow removal group and go above and beyond to ensure all equipment runs smoothly, in order to maintain safe operations on our airfield. In addition, the Authority provides our Mechanics with all the tools and training that they need for a job well done. Your ability to take initiative combined with your driven attitude will contribute to your success as a part of our team.WHAT YOU WILL DOAs part of our high performing, critical thinking Heavy Duty Mechanic team, you will report to the Manager, Fleet Maintenance. The overall responsibility of this safety-sensitive role is to participate and oversee high quality maintenance and repairs to the Calgary Airport Authority’s heavy equipment fleet. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate/schedule equipment maintenance and repair in consultation with the Manager of Fleet, external vendors, and internal customers.
  • Assist with training and educating new and current Heavy-Duty Mechanic staff on day to day job functions and safe work method procedures.
  • Assist in development of predictive maintenance metrics and KPIs, such as break fix times, allocation of hours, parts inventory recommendations, and safe work methods.
  • Lead and perform diagnostic and testing procedures to verify problems as submitted on snag work orders and determine the condition and/or wear on parts for replacement.
  • Estimate repair jobs, determine what the parts and labor cost will be, and estimate the total time needed to complete each job. Compile this information and provide it to the Manager of Fleet.
  • Assist in the ordering of parts through the internal procurement system (Oracle). Utilize maintenance management software (Maximo), as needed.
  • Accurately complete a variety of records such as, but not limited to, safety inspections, work orders, snags, external vendor invoices, CVIP, and PMIs.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, airfield tests and other inspections on all types of YYC Airport Authority equipment. This includes, but is not limited to: sweepers, loaders, buses, tandems, blowers, mowers, and small summer equipment.
  • Ensure that all work areas are kept clean and in safe condition.
  • Operate and dispatch service truck to pick up/drop off parts, assesses mobile repairs in the field, and transport employees.
  • Repair and maintain a diverse fleet of airport vehicles and heavy equipment, including off-highway trucks and trailers, airport fire trucks, snow clearing equipment, agricultural equipment, and construction equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, regularly scheduled maintenance, and emergency repairs, both in the maintenance shop and on the airfield.
  • Perform modifications on all vehicles and equipment to meet increased performance requirements and to improve reliability and safety.
  • Participate in corporate safety programs and initiatives.
  • Cooperate and engage with your teammates to foster a culture of inclusivity, feedback, tolerance, and acceptance.

  • Maintain respectful communication with your peers, leadership team, YYC Crew and external stakeholders at all times, as outlined in the Respect in the Workplace Training.
  • Work collaboratively with your team to ensure all tasks assigned to you and the crew are completed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Manager of Fleet.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 3+ years’ experience working as a certified Heavy-Duty Journeyman
  • Valid Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Certificate
  • 3+ years’ previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Have and maintain a Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, Class 3 preferred
  • Welding, machining and fabrication experience preferred
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certificates or experience is considered an asset
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP) and Radio License
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
  • Must be able to meet the requirements of a safety-sensitive position, this includes Alcohol & Drug screening and pre employment medical assessment
