We are dedicated to promoting solar renewable energy in North America and reducing our carbon footprint.We are currently seeking a highly skilled Supply Chain Manager based out of our Calgary office.The successful Supply Chain Manager is responsible to ensure delivery of first class HSE national programs (with provincial programs) that will meet all standards and regulations applicable for industry deliverables and support similar efforts for any US jurisdictions. This may include up to Comply Works, Avetta, ISN, etc. certifications. This role should reflect the highest level of professional and respectful conduct and leadership in the office and field environments and with any stakeholders (client, Company peers, suppliers, contractors, consultants, community) and ensure any applicable health, safety and environmental policies and procedures are always communicated and strictly enforced, as required.You will use your expertise to manage supply chain projects, vendors, and general management responsibilities.Supply Chain Project Responsibilities:

  • Be the primary point of contact for negotiating contract and/or purchase order terms and conditions for major equipment, agreement with distributors and support the Construction group on contract administration for any subcontracted services. For clarity, the negotiation of terms and conditions for those subcontractor services will be led by the Project Engineers/Project Manager and the Construction management team.
  • Work with Department resources and engineering to develop complete and accurate project supply list with deadlines by commodity from bills of materials and specifications. Consolidate for all projects to facilitate negotiations.
  • Work closely and manage weekly purchasing clerk to ensure timely and accurate submissions and approvals of purchase requisitions and purchase orders and/or supply/service agreements and fulfillment of those orders and/or agreements according to approved terms and conditions.
  • Conform with rigorous enforcement of countersigned contracts/agreements by both Companies in line with approval matrix and levels of authority.
  • Negotiate materials procurement and steel contract manufacturing costs (PHLEGON® foundation and racking products) to ensure on or below budget commitments to vendors with all technical and commercial terms and conditions met including timelines (incentive for cost savings from budget).
  • Manage logistics planning and execution activities, including any duties and tariffs associated with imports and exports of goods.
  • Visit project sites and or vendors as needed to deal with product quality issues, if required (exceptional).
  • Support materials logistical coordination and onsite receiving to validate purchase orders/invoice compliance.
  • Work closely as a functional resource with Project Managers to fulfil product and equipment deliverables on time, budget, and with expected quality.
  • Provide prompt guidance to Project Management if procurement delays may impact project cost or schedule and suggest recovery plans from vendors or suppliers to alleviate those impacts.
  • Anticipate or ensure immediate escalation of issues that could impact project timing or budget to Project Management in a timely manner.
  • Provide expertise and efforts towards the development and implementation of an integrated Procurement and Contract Manufacturing System including processes and KPI’s as part of the overall EPC Program Management System.
  • Support construction estimator in obtaining quotations for RFP submissions (e.g., spot check availability and prices of major equipment as required on specific opportunities).
Vendor Management Responsibilities:
  • Source, qualify and engage new supply, manufacturing, logistics partners or equipment suppliers to support the markets of focus through RFP’s, site visits/formal audits (part of the travel allowance) and approval by management.
  • Maintain Database and run monthly, quarterly, and yearly report on vendors.
  • Provide annual top 10 vendors performance and design award system for top supplier/contract manufacturer and top subcontractor of the year (as time allows).
  • Manage confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements with all suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Work with Finance and Accounting Department to submit credit applications and negotiate credit terms.
  • Format and receive monthly/quarterly pricing and terms updates from key commodity/equipment suppliers against Company’s pipeline to help accurate business development group estimates:
    • solar modules
    • cables/conductors
    • inverters
    • battery storage systems,
    • transformers
    • Switchgears
    • actuators, controls, UPS (PHLEGON electrical commodities)
    • non-GP JOULE racking systems
  • Share new technology reports and new product launch / updates from major equipment suppliers with North America team, when relevant.
  • Recommend and draft for review and approval by Manager strategic MSA’s with supporting business cases.
  • Develop and enforce organization wide workflow for Supply Chain Management and purchase order management.
  • Assess current practices and procedures to identify areas of inefficiency and provide recommendations or suggestions for improvements to manager and executive management.
  • Develop standardized processes and contract templates - with support of legal counsels if required - for procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Support the Company implementation, design or process improvement of systems related to the supply chain functions (procurement, contract manufacturing, logistics).
  • Seek through research or referrals and help assess and qualify with the Construction team, strategic distribution, construction (civil, mechanical, electrical) and labor partners in new markets namely Western Canada, Midwest US, Northeast US, and any other specific market as required.
  • Reduce and mitigate the risk of single source procurement for all materials, components, including assemblies for our PHLEGON® products, as well as any other major strategic equipment with a focus of categorizing low cost vs. high-cost valid alternatives.
  • Participate in trade shows to maintain and enhance relationships with strategic equipment suppliers, partners and ensure GP JOULE is always up to date on new supply/demand dynamics, and new products/innovations availability.
General Management Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a culture of development and continuous improvement with your staff and external resources (consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, labor agencies, etc.).
  • Manage your and your staff responsibilities and workload to ensure optimal utilization of time and resources.
  • Assess performance and areas for development and training for your staff.
  • Maintain clear and effective communications with Manager and team on updates of operations and projects in progress.
  • Plan and communicate to direct and functional staff and Manager work-sharing plans, back-up plans for vacations or work travel.
  • Ensure your desks, materials, hardware (equipment, tools, etc.), data (server architecture) are maintained, clean, in order and professional-looking at all times. Organize adequate project filing as required and audit data archiving from your staff (if applicable) at least once monthly to ensure compliance.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field
  • At least 10-year experience in purchasing management field, with at least 5 years’ construction experience
  • Desire and ability to work closely and influentially with other members of senior regional leadership teams
Preferred qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Business or Finance. MBA desired
  • Experience in the solar industry
  • Demonstrated history of leadership, teamwork, and project management skills
  • Demonstrated competitive drive and strong orientation for results and achievement
  • Demonstrated skills in clear communication and presentation
  • Demonstrated professionalism and strong presence in interactions with others
Where you will be working, your work schedule, and other important information:The base hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on the business needs.You may be expected to travel across Canada (Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Nova Scotia), and US (primarily Mid-West, North-East) from time to time as a representative of the Company.GP Joule also offers an exciting, faced paced working environment with a competitive base salary based on experience.
