Job Description

Strathcona Resources Ltd. (“Strathcona”) is a Calgary, Alberta based crude oil and gas production and development company focused on maximizing oil and gas recovery from its low decline, high free cash flow oil and gas resource base. Strathconas operations, infrastructure and land position are focused in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.Strathcona is presently seeking an experienced full time Team Lead, Environment & Regulatory.This role will be responsible for providing leadership in the continuous enhancement of Strathcona’s Environment & Regulatory programs.

  • Lead the continued development and strengthening of a positive environmental and compliance culture among all employees and key stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with relevant parties to ensure Strathcona is achieving its goals around compliance with current industry laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Liaise with regulatory officials to support awareness of upcoming regulatory changes, approval timelines and other regulatory related impacts
  • Engagement with industry groups to support industry awareness and influence regulatory and government policy
  • Oversee the development and or continuous improvement for key environmental programs including air emissions management and reporting, liability management, environmental monitoring & protection (water, soil & wildlife) and waste classification and tracking
  • Support multi-disciplinary teams with coordination and submission of regulatory applications
  • Oversee Strathcona’s systems for compliance tracking, investigation, auditing and corrective action completion
  • Monitor trends and changes in regulations and proactively communicate to internal stakeholders on the potential impact to current and future strategy and tactics
  • Lead the continuous improvement initiatives of E&R programs based on information gathered through investigations, such as causal analysis
  • Coordinate the development of annual remediation plans & budgets and ensure the appropriate input into the annual Asset Retirement Obligation determinations.
Qualifications
  • An appropriate combination of education, training and experience to achieve the mandate
  • Preference for a professional designation in an environmental related area
  • Proficient in key upstream oil and gas environmental areas including air quality, water quality, site assessment and remediation
  • Good understanding of provincial and federal regulations for upstream oil and gas exploration and production across the western Canadian sedimentary basin
  • Proficiency in oil and gas operations is required. Experience relating to SAGD/Heavy Oil production would be an asset.
