Job Description

Job DescriptionSummary of Responsibilities

  • Manages project engineers and assigns personnel to projects.
  • Oversee and control project design within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Support the development and management of capital program budgets, including monitoring, tracking, and reporting.
  • Ensures projects are executed in alignment with AltaGas’ Project Delivery Model (PDM).
  • Review, evaluate and influence AltaGas’ Project Delivery Model (PDM) processes, procedures, and templates.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for cost efficiencies and review and analyze contractor performance/trends.
  • Proactively identify and resolve engineering issues.
  • Ensure project engineers adequately engage internal and external stakeholders to progress project execution.
  • Supervise and support technical evaluations for equipment, services, and material bid packages.
  • Develop, maintain, and foster relationships with engineering, fabrication, and construction contractors.
  • Ensure adherence to change management processes and procedures.
  • Ensure relevant construction work packages are developed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering practices/processes by monitoring industry best practices and emerging trends, conducting research and analyses, and presenting recommendations.
  • Proactively identify and manage project risks, and safety through design to operations.
  • Provide project oversight to ensure quality is being achieved through design, fabrication, construction and into operations.
  • Liaise with Facility Field Leadership Team to ensure project objectives and requirements are understood and incorporated into project design.
  • Support, promote and curate a diverse and inclusive working environment
  • Lead the performance management cycle for direct reports.
Qualifications
  • Recognized bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • P. Eng. Or P.L (Eng) designation registered with Alberta Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (or eligibility).
  • 10+ years of progressive project management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as presentation skills.
  • Have a solid understanding of the regulations plus the adopted codes and industry standards that govern Oil and Gas facilities and pipelines in Alberta, British Columbia and the United States (e.g., ABSA, AER, BCOGC, TSBC, ASME, CSA, OH&S, OSHA, etc.).
  • Strong leader, able to supervise, mentor and coach a team of 4 to 6 project engineers.
  • Working knowledge, and project specific experience, of gas processing facilities, including sweet/sour gas plants, pipelines, LACT’s and rail loading/unloading terminals.
  • Strong technical background in a variety of engineering disciplines.
  • Proven track record of both greenfield and brownfield project execution.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, Power Point).
  • Experience with scheduling software (P6 PrimaVera, Microsoft Projects).
  • Working knowledge of Oracle JD Edwards (or equivalent) would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel to field locations.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
