The Team:West Oak Family Office is a multi-family office located in Calgary Alberta with over $1 Billion in Assets Under Administration (AUA). More than a traditional wealth management offering, West Oak Family Office provides a platform for high and ultra-high-net-worth families which is fully integrated, independent, and dedicated to the families they serve, with a long-term focus on each family’s success.In addition to Wellington-Altus’ total rewards program, the West Oak team is pleased to offer benefits to their team such as maternity top-up, paid volunteer days, and a flexible remote-work program.The opportunity:Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Managers at West Oak Family Office, the Trader & Portfolio Analyst will act as a resource person for the team’s Portfolio Managers with trading, portfolio management, and research tasks and transaction processing related to managing client accounts and the team’s proprietary investment models.Key responsibilities include:
  • Being responsible for daily monitoring of capital movements and transactions for all client portfolios.
  • Determining optimal tactical asset allocation across accounts for all households.
  • Organizing and building trade lists.
  • Executing fixed income and equity trades on large volumes of high value trades.
  • Collaborating with the investment management committee at weekly meetings.
  • Monitoring market prices and macro conditions.
  • Researching industry related information from a variety of sources as requested by Portfolio Managers.
  • Keeping abreast of policy and procedure changes within the firm and industry.
  • Being committed to rigorous follow up in relation to all client transactions, to ensure proper processing and minimization of errors.
  • Maintaining client files, ensuring that all documentation and notes are compliant with industry regulations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A bachelor’s in business administration, accounting, finance, or similar field of study.
  • 5+ years of finance industry experience with at least two years of trading equity, fixed income, FX, and/or derivatives.
  • A CFA designation: CFA charter holder (preferred) or a CFA candidate (Level II minimum).
  • Registration as an IR or RR with IIROC, or a commitment to getting IR or RR licensed along with ongoing Continuing Education requirements.
  • A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office tool; specifically, Excel.
  • Experience with Bloomberg, Thomson One, Bulk Trading software.
  • An ability to maintain composure and communicate effectively in high-stress situations.
  • A demonstrated ability to independently prioritize and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
  • An excellent attitude and commitment to providing extraordinary service.
  • A proven ability to independently identify problems and make suggestions for improvement.
  • An ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and work requirements; stay up to date on all processes and procedures.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A reliable, consistent work ethic.
Conditions of employment:
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Current and maintained registration as an IR or RR, including completion of all courses and experience requirements, with IIROC with the ongoing requirement to fulfill Continuing Education requirements.
  • A background check, satisfactory to the employer, may be required of the successful applicant prior to commencing employment.
