We have maintained our Platinum membership status since 2008.POSITION SUMMARYCANA Energy is seeking self-motivated, reliable Traffic Utility Workers to join our team in Calgary. CANA’s Traffic Utility Workers are versatile individuals who have opportunities to work in various specializations of the Utilities Industry. We work with Traffic Control Systems, Street Lights, Natural Gas and Fibre Optics, as well as Overhead and Underground Powerline Construction.CANA Traffic Utility Workers have an opportunity to gain experience within a wide range of projects. As the Traffic Utility Worker, you are expected to be engaged in our safety program, executing work in a safe manner, in adherence with CANA policies and all applicable code regulations and the Act.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIESJob duties vary by type of project and specifications of our Clients. Specific duties for CANA Energy Traffic Utility Worker include:

  • Assisting in digging ditches or trenches, excavating, sanding, backfilling excavations and compacting/leveling earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers and rakes
  • Help with the installations, setting and framing of poles and streetlights
  • Placing conduit and different types of cables
  • Installing shallow utilities for residential and commercial sites
  • Installing underground cables and conduit
  • Installing pre-cast concrete structures and underground fibre glass vaults
  • Site, equipment and tool maintenance
  • Material hauling, organizing and site clean up
  • Stringing conductors and running handlines
  • Participate in and contribute to daily job site hazard assessments and weekly safety meetings
  • Assisting Qualified Tradesman including Gas Fusers and Powerline Technicians with various tasks
  • Other duties as requested
CANA’s Traffic Utility Workers work hand in hand supporting PLT’s Gas Fusers, Equipment Operators and Foremen in team environments to get projects completed successfully on time and on budget for our Clients.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILTIESTo be successful in the role:
  • Previous electrical utilities experience is an asset
  • Backhoe and/or Trackhoe equipment operating experience is an asset
  • Experience working in close proximity to active heavy machinery is an asset
  • Previous flagger experience is not required but considered an asset
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Class 3 or Class 1 is an asset
  • Clean driving abstract
  • CSTS
  • Ground Disturbance Level 2
  • Additional Safety Tickets and Certifications including First Aid and Fall Protection are assets
  • Willing and able to commute to various job sites
  • Reliable transportation is a must
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods in addition to performing physical activities and manual labour – such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials
WORKING CONDITIONSThe nature of this position requires physically demanding motions and tasks. Candidates are required to successfully complete a Pre-Employment Assessment including drug and alcohol screening and fitness test requiring the ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly. CANA has projects all over Western Canada. Travel and shift work may be required with this position. Be prepared for the possibility of travel throughout Alberta. CANA Energy operates year-round and outdoors in all types of terrain and environments.
