Job Description

Position OverviewThe Faculty of Social Work (Central and Northern Alberta Region) is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Training and Mentorship Coordinator in the SSHRC Partnership Grant funded study entitled Transforming the Field Education Landscape in the area of Social Work Education for approximately 8 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.Reporting to the Principal Investigator (Dr. Julie Drolet), the Training and Mentorship Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating multiple training, mentoring and research activities within the three streams of the project. The incumbent will play a critical role in managing and coordinating all training and mentorship activities involving social work students, faculty, field coordinators/directors, and partners. Given multiple simultaneous deadlines throughout the study timeline, the work requires the management of competing interests with excellent outcomes, excellent project management skills and knowledge of social work field education.The incumbent will work Monday to Friday with potential hours outside of regular business hours due to meetings or events.Position DescriptionSummary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Provides a key support role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation activities related to training and mentorship in the project including social work students and study participants.
  • Manages, assists and coordinates training and mentorship related activities.
  • Prepares and submits study documents to the ethic boards.
  • Assists in developing training modules, presentations and publications and organizing rountables on promising and innovative practices in social work field education.
  • Engages with partner organizations and coordinate opportunities for partnered research training and mentorship initiatives.
  • Provides support in planning additional project related initiatives as needed on an ongoing basis.
  • Manages project scope and timelines to ensure compliance with funding regulations and project deliverables such as developing training modules, webinars, and mentorship initiatives.
  • Provides promotional information about project activities (e.g., publications, presentations, incentives, awards, etc.) to appropriate team members for recognition on social media, newsletter, and/or website.
  • Promotes project activities through relevant avenues, including drafting of web content, newsletter items, email announcements, posters and other mediums, managing and coordinating activities such as highlighting student work, articles and other promotional activities as needed.
  • Coordinates and manages logistics for training and mentorship in the project (speakers, webinar technologies, evaluation, reporting) as well as for project webinars and events, including the Field Research Scholars program.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Graduate degree in social work required (Masters in Social Work and/or PhD in Social Work).
  • Working knowledge of social work field education and research is required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience training and mentorship in social work field education.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience facilitating and conducting social work field education research projects.
  • Knowledge of University policies including submission of projects to ethics boards is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple training, mentoring and research activities.
  • Fluent in English (required) and French (preferred); excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and interdependently with others.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication and presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels is required.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Nvivo 12.0 required.
  • Experience using digital storytelling, web content development, developing infographics, and other related social media apps required.
