Job Description

Professional Excavators & Construction Inc. delivers Civil Construction services for multi-family residential, civil, and commercial construction projects in Calgary and the surrounding area.The company is built on the foundational beliefs that hard work, delivering on promises and perseverance are what get the job done. Ensuring customer satisfaction remains at the forefront of our business.Professional Excavators & Construction Inc. is a company full of people with a passion for construction, who have chosen the construction industry as the place to build their careers.We are currently seeking an Underground Superintendent who shares our passion and enjoys a fast-paced environment involving heavy equipment and big hearts while shaping the ground for exciting new infrastructure. Working closely with the Operations Manager, the Underground Superintendent provides leadership, coaching and development to their team and monitors key performance indicators to ensure successful completion of projects relating to Site Grading and Mass Excavation. Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • High level of commitment towards Safety, Quality, Productivity and Environmental Protection while providing mentorship and recognizing team and individual performance. Share your knowledge and provide opportunity for your team members to gain new skills and grow into advanced roles as the “future” of the industry.
  • Meticulous organizer – ensuring your projects and foremen have efficient daily work plans and effective resource allocation while meeting customers’ expectations on schedule and within budget.
  • Focus on detailed activity onsite while managing the offsite logistics for material hauls and soil disposal site procurement and management.
  • Ability to step in when required to provide guidance and technical expertise towards a proactive solution-based approach to challenges.
  • As a team player, anticipate and communicate project and resource needs while engaging your ability to create and drive effective schedules for project success and completion.
  • Apply your financial management experience to plan, manage and forecast project budgets and costs.
  • Enthusiastic about ensuring project excellence through innovative methods that increase efficiency and push the boundaries of “traditional” approaches to routine construction methods.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to bring positive resolution to a variety of client, project, and employee concerns.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of construction methodologies, have good computer skills and experience with project scheduling and financial management software.
Required Skills:
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in water and sewer related industry
  • Ability to lead crew members in a safe work environment while providing leadership and guidance to field crews
  • Ability to read blueprints, grade sheets, job specifications, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide assistance with complex high rise tie ins
  • Has a good understanding of installation methods within the deep utility industry
  • Strong knowledge of City of Calgary specifications
  • Ability to liaise with clients, city inspectors and suppliers
  • Coordinate inspection notifications, traffic accommodation and site logistics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Environmentally conscious and respectful
  • Proven track record of project success and team collaboration.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and resources while understanding contract scopes.
  • Excellent computer skills and previous experience with scheduling and cost management software.
  • Minimum of 2 relevant, professional references
  • Pass mandatory Drug and Medical screening
  • Valid AB Driver’s License (Class 5 minimum)
