What qualifications are we looking forAt YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Human Services, Education, Social Work or Humanities;
  • Experience and/or desire to work with newcomer youth;
  • Experience in leading and running groups, particularly around topics such as leadership, philanthropy, and job-searching skills;
  • Initiative and a strong work ethic;
  • Strong team-work skills as well as the ability to work independently and with low supervision;
  • Critical-thinking skills;
  • Administrative experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Reliable transportation;
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months);
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
  • Three professional references required
What does this role look like at YMCA CalgaryDuties and Responsibilities include:
  • Work part-time, year-round, in two dynamic programs (YMAP and Infinity) offering support and positive experiences for high school and post-secondary students;
  • Independently deliver after-school sessions in-person and online four to five days each week from October to June for youth with a wide variety of English levels, with some weekends as needed;
  • Run or support summer programming for youth during July and August with the possibility of supporting program preparation during month of September;
  • Adapt curriculum into daily lesson plans to meet student needs;
  • Deliver topics including self-esteem, healthy relationships, philanthropy, using Calgary transit, resume writing, global initiatives, and cultural awareness;
  • Work within a team of YMAP Coordinators;
  • Help organize special events for youth;
  • Recruit participants through in-school presentations and one-on-one interviews;
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance, and program impact stories;
  • Support program evaluation;
  • Provide drop-in and referrals for participants when needed;
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations;
  • Be an ambassador for YMCA programs in the community;
  • Ensure a clean and safe work environment.
