Job Description

The Learner and Academic Services (LAS) department’s role in student success is to create a culture and environment that unleashes the full potential of all the students at SAIT. Our primary goal is to support the Education Plan, and a Student-First Culture, by focusing on student success and mobilizing all campus community members in this shared goal.The OpportunitySAIT Youth Initiatives is hiring a youth programs coordinator to join our team. This role will focus primarily on overseeing the SAIT camps program. This role will be responsible for the planning, administration, content development, budget, reporting, and delivery of the SAIT camps. This role will also provide support to the youth initiatives team as needed in support of programming that engages youth and that contributes to the overall vision for the youth initiatives portfolio.Look forward to a rewarding position where you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth and support lifelong learning.     • Assist with planning for SAIT Camps including set-up of camps, hiring, development of new camps, scheduling, and working with other staff members to determine supply needs. Overall support of day to day camp operations will be required from June through to end of August, as well as throughout the year.
    • Create and delivery camp leader training in the weeks leading up to camps.
    • Provide functional supervision and oversight of approximately 35 – 40 seasonal camp staff throughout the duration of camp programming.
    • Update and maintain emergency response procedures specific to the summer camps.
    • Build relationships and work closely with various SAIT schools and departments to coordinate and implement a wide variety of camp programming.
    • Collaborate with Chinook Lodge staff to coordinate programs and learning experiences for Indigenous youth
    • Act as a central point of contact for Youth Initiatives; responding to public inquiries via email, phone, and walk-ins.
    • Correspond with the public about routine policies, procedures and frequently asked questions.
    • Maintain and improve an organization system for digital and physical records and files.
    • Work with the Youth Initiatives team as well as other SAIT staff to centralize information pertaining to various on and off campus youth events and presentations.
    • Support the registration of youth participants and schools registrations in Excel and Access, and CampBrain.
    • Arrange bus and field trip bookings as needed
    • Entering data from a variety of sources, including participant feedback and providing an analysis of the data through ongoing reporting.
    • Coordinate logistics (room bookings, catering, signage and basic communications) around programs, events, and usage of space on campus for the camps.
    • May be required to meet, greet and orient youth, teachers and the public and provide basic tours of throughout the year.
    • Responsible for responding to parent inquiries in a timely and professional manner, while being mindful of sensitive information.
    • Responsible for duties related to camper care during summer camp, year-round and evening youth programs.
Qualifications & Experience
    • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field, including but not limited to, education, communications or social work
    • 3-5 years’ experience in summer camp programming and working with youth, ideally in a leadership role.
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
    • Knowledge using social media in a professional setting
    • Ability to maintain a high attention to detail and professionalism when editing and publishing web and print content and corresponding with the public.
    • Introductory level proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to learn new software systems quickly (experience using CampBrain, Banner, Adobe InDesign and Canva is considered an asset).
    • Must Have
    • Current and satisfactory criminal background check with a vulnerable sector search is required as a condition of employment.
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. (transport signs, event materials and supplies) and to push a cart weighing approximately 40 lbs.
    • Early morning, evening and weekend work will be required seasonally. Your availability will be required for the entire duration of the summer camps period (June through August inclusive).
    • Valid Alberta driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.
    • Throughout the duration of summer camps (June through August) this role will require working on-campus Monday through Friday. Throughout the remainder of the year, this role will require minimum two days of working on-campus (subject to change based on programming in progress).
    • Ability to work evenings or weekends when necessary to meet the needs of programs and the larger Youth Initiatives team.
    • Valid and current first aid and CPR Level C with AED is required for this role. Training can be provided to the successful candidate.
