Please proceed using the link: https://app.traits.com/survey/a56e7669-2ba6-4573-83cd-800831da5362 POSITION OVERVIEW:Startec Refrigeration Service is currently recruiting for a (1st/2nd Year) Apprentice Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic to work at our Calgary, AB location (9423 Shepard Road SE, Calgary, AB T2C 4R6).As a Refrigeration Mechanic Apprentice in your first/second year, you will play a crucial role in learning and developing the skills necessary to become a skilled and competent refrigeration mechanic. Under the guidance and supervision of experienced refrigeration mechanics, you will assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of refrigeration systems. This apprenticeship will provide you with hands-on training and knowledge to support your growth in the field of refrigeration mechanics. This role requires a strong technical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):ON THE TOOLS (Weighting 70%)Assist in Equipment installation

  • Assist experienced technicians in the installation of refrigeration systems and equipment.
  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Assist in assembling, connecting, and testing refrigeration components.
Perform Maintenanceamp; Repairs
  • Assist in routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, and lubricating moving parts.
  • Learn to diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration system issues under the guidance of experienced technicians.
  • Assist in repairing or replacing faulty components, such as compressors, condensers, and evaporators.
  • Assist experienced refrigeration mechanics in the installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Assist with assembling, disassembling, and testing refrigeration system components.

  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and learning sessions.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assist in preparing service reports and documenting equipment inspections.
  • Provide updates and feedback to the supervising technicians on work progress and any issues encountered.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of Refrigeration Systems: Understanding the principles of refrigeration systems, including the components, functions, and operation of compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves, and refrigerants.
  • Electrical Knowledge: Basic understanding of electrical systems and components related to refrigeration, such as motors, switches, relays, and control panels. Familiarity with electrical safety practices and wiring diagrams.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to work with tools and equipment commonly used in refrigeration, such as wrenches, gauges, pressure testers, vacuum pumps, and pipe cutters. Proficiency in using hand and power tools for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
  • Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Skills: Capability to identify and diagnose problems in refrigeration systems, such as leaks, inadequate cooling, and mechanical failures. Proficiency in using testing equipment and techniques to pinpoint issues and propose solutions.
  • Installation and Repair: Knowledge of proper installation practices for refrigeration equipment, including piping, insulation, and electrical connections. Ability to follow installation guidelines and manufacturer specifications. Skills in repairing and replacing faulty components and ensuring system functionality.
  • System Maintenance and Servicing: Understanding of routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, and lubricating moving parts. Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices to ensure system efficiency and longevity.
  • Safety Procedures: Awareness of safety protocols and adherence to safety guidelines while working with refrigeration systems. Understanding of refrigerant handling regulations and procedures to prevent environmental hazards.
  • Reading and Interpretation of Technical Manuals: Ability to read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics related to refrigeration systems. Competence in interpreting and applying technical information for troubleshooting and repair purposes.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations applicable to refrigeration systems, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations for refrigerant handling.
  • Equipment Operation: Gain proficiency in operating various industrial refrigeration equipment, such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, and cooling towers. Understand the functions and components of different refrigeration systems.
  • Refrigerant Handling: Understand the safe handling and management of refrigerants, including proper storage, transportation, and disposal procedures. Familiar with refrigerant types, their properties, and the associated safety regulations.
  • Control Systems: Acquire knowledge of control systems used in industrial refrigeration, including temperature and pressure controls, automation systems, and monitoring devices. Understand how to calibrate and adjust these controls for optimal system performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered with Apprenticeship Industry Training (AIT) as a first-year apprentice (Refrigeration)
  • Basic computer skills required (MS Office Applications)
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills through on-the-job training.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean Driver #39;s Abstract
  • Ability to work independently and on-call.
