ABOUT US:Startec Compressionamp; Process is dedicated to providing innovative solutions to meet your unique challenges and opportunities.We are an integrated project and engineering equipment fabricator specializing in the modularized design and packaging of process, refrigeration, and rotating equipment solutions. Most of our solutions are related to Energy Transition and carbon reduction industries.POSITION OVERVIEW:Startec Compressionamp; Process is currently recruiting a B-Pressure Welder to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6).The B-Pressure Welder is responsible for performing complex welding tasks on Vessels and Exchangers, ensuring the integrity and safety of critical components. Reporting to the Vessel Supervisor, the B-Pressure Welder will possess a keen eye for precision and a strong commitment to safety, they meticulously adhere to welding codes, industry standards, and project specifications. The B-Pressure Welder possesses expertise in various welding techniques, including GTAW, SMAW, MCAW, GMAW, and FCAW, and has a deep understanding of metals and alloys commonly used in welding applications.Shift: 4:30 p.m.-2:20 a.m.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):WELDING EXPERTISE (Weighting 60%)Proficient Welding Processesamp; Techniques

  • Execute welding tasks utilizing a variety of processes, including but not limited to: SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), Metal-Core (MCAW), and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding).
  • Adapt to the specific welding process required for each project based on material type, thickness, and project specifications.
  • Produce welds that consistently meet or exceed project specifications, quality standards, and industry codes.
Interpretation of Specifications
  • Read and comprehensively interpret welding process specifications, including weld procedure specifications (WPS), provided in project documentation.
  • Conduct a thorough review to identify critical requirements, parameters, and procedures. Ensure clear understanding of welding symbols, geometric tolerances, and special instructions embedded within project plans and blueprints.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of a wide range of metals, alloys, and welding materials commonly utilized in welding applications, including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys.
LAYOUTamp; ASSEMBLY (Weighting 20%)Blueprint Interpretationamp; Material Selection
  • Proficiently interpret project plans, engineering drawings, and blueprints to accurately translate design specifications into the physical layout and assembly of components.
  • Conduct material inspections to confirm that materials meet quality and specification criteria.
Measurementamp; Installation
  • Prepare materials for welding by performing tasks such as cleaning, preheating, and applying necessary treatments, as specified in the WPS. Confirm that materials are in optimal condition to facilitate successful welds.
  • Maintain clean and deburred edges to promote high-quality welds.
  • Execute the layout, fitting, and assembly of components for vessels and exchangers according to project plans, engineering drawings, and blueprints.
  • Conduct measurements at critical points to ensure compliance with design tolerances.
  • Recognize and address deviations from specified tolerances to achieve precise alignment and fit.
COMPLIANCE (Weighting 15%)QA/QC
  • Strictly adhere to established weld procedures (WPS) provided for each welding task, ensuring that all parameters, techniques, and guidelines are followed meticulously.
  • Document all aspects of the welding process, including parameter settings, material conditions, and any deviations from the WPS.
  • Comply with quality control measures during welding to verify that each weld meets or exceeds the requirements specified in the WPS.
  • Conduct visual inspections for weld quality.
Healthamp; Safety
  • Identify potential safety hazards and risks associated with welding activities for vessels and exchangers.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to lockout/tagout procedures, and compliance with relevant safety regulations.
  • Conduct risk/hazard and equipment assessments and implement mitigation measures to minimize hazards associated with instrumentation activities
  • Ensure full compliance with all safety certifications and tickets relevant to the job, including but not limited to: B-pressure welding certification, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, First Aid, Fire Safety and Hazardous Materials Handling.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (Weighting 15%)Collaborationamp; Communication
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, supervisors, and other stakeholders, to ensure effective communication and coordination in executing structural welding-related tasks.
  • Act as a liaison between different departments to facilitate smooth workflow and resolve technical issues.
Mentorshipamp; Training
  • Assist in training programs and mentorship initiatives to support the development of less experienced team members.
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement in work processes and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certified B-Pressure Welder with relevant certifications (e.g., ABSA certification in Alberta, Canada).
  • 2+ years of experience working in spooling and/or vessel welding.
  • Extensive experience in B-pressure welding, including welding in high-pressure environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of welding techniques, welding equipment, and relevant welding codes and standards.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including familiarity with safety regulations and protocols.
  • Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment functional assessment, which may include a practical welding test to evaluate welding skills and abilities. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be required
