The Commercial Construction Manager is a dynamic role that blends the strategic vision of business development with the tactical execution of project management. Reporting to the Vice President of Projects, the Commercial Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the successful planning, execution, and completion of Commercial Construction projects while actively identifying and pursuing new business development opportunities and partnerships to drive Startec Refrigeration Service’s growth in the Commercial Construction industry. The Commercial Construction Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders to achieve project objectives, maintain client satisfaction, and expand the Startec Refrigeration Services market presence.This position holds significant potential for individuals seeking to join an exceptionally high-performing construction team.   • Collaborate with the executive team and relevant stakeholders to define short-term and long-term business development goals and objectives.
  • Ensure alignment between business development goals and the company #39;s overall mission, vision, and core values.
  • Create and execute detailed business development plans that outline specific goals, timelines, and resource requirements.
Market Analysisamp; Opportunities Identification
  • Conduct comprehensive research to understand industry trends, competitor strategies, and customer needs, staying updated on significant developments.
  • Engage in targeted industry events to monitor market dynamics and gather feedback. Analyze the competitive landscape, identify market gaps and opportunities, and ensure organizational offerings align with market demands.
  • Evaluate potential for market entry or diversification, and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to leadership, fostering cross-team strategic execution.
Pipelineamp; Relationship Management
  • Efficiently manage a strong pipeline aligned with company growth, focusing on strategic fit, potential revenue, and available resources.

  • Conduct detailed cost analysis for projects, factoring in labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, using specialized tools for accuracy.
  • Assess risks and review technical documents to ensure precise estimations and identify cost-effective alternatives, collaborating with design/engineering teams to resolve discrepancies and maintain quality.
Supplieramp; Subcontractor Relations
  • Establish and nurture strong working relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to gather competitive pricing and cost data.
  • Monitor market fluctuations and trends to anticipate potential impacts on material and labor costs.
Bidamp; Proposal Preparation
  • Prepare comprehensive and well-structured bids and proposals that align with client requirements, project specifications, and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the business development team to tailor bid submissions to meet client expectations and highlight the value and competitiveness of the offer.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT (Weighting 20%)Project Planningamp; Execution
  • Conduct extensive stakeholder analysis and engage with all pertinent parties to collect thorough project requirements.
  • Develop detailed project plans, outline necessary resources, and budget, and set a feasible timeline, ensuring transparent communication and documentation.
  • Allocate resources efficiently, maintain consistent progress monitoring, and encourage robust team communication and collaboration.
  • Proactively tackle any challenges or obstacles, taking necessary corrective measures to adhere to the schedule and budget.

  • Collaboratively manage and closely monitor project budgets, analyzing financial reports to identify discrepancies, and implementing cost-saving strategies for optimized spending.
  • Maintain transparent communication with all stakeholders regarding budget status and financial performance.
CLIENTamp; STAKEHOLDER COMMUNICATION (Weighting 15%)Client Relationship Management
  • Cultivate lasting relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders through open communication, trust-building via valuable insights, and proactive opportunity identification for upselling and partnership expansion.
  • Effectively communicate the organization #39;s value to attract potential clients and partners, tailoring outreach strategies to align with specific prospect needs and interests.

  • Oversee and ensure compliance with local and provincial laws for all business development and project management activities.
  • Regularly assess compliance risks, work collaboratively with legal and compliance teams for correct interpretation and application of regulations, and provide thorough training and guidance on compliance requirements.
  • Maintain a strong adherence to compliance policies and establish a robust system for monitoring, reporting, and addressing any issues or violations.

  • Continuously refine business development strategies, project management methods, and workflows based on feedback from all stakeholders and performance indicators, implementing improvements collaboratively across teams.

  • Conduct sessions to reflect on completed projects, gathering and documenting both positive and negative experiences.
  • Efficiently review completed projects to identify and document key takeaways, create a comprehensive knowledge repository, and highlight areas for future improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field or a technical bachelor’s degree or indentureship related to the organization (e.g., Refrigeration Mechanic, Mechanical PEng or CET, etc.)
  • Minimum of 5+ years in project management and/or business development roles, directly related to the commercial refrigeration and HVAC industry, with a track record of successful project delivery and revenue growth.
  • A prerequisite for this role is a comprehensive understanding of commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems, along with a background in the construction of such systems or equivalent industry-related experience.
  • Excellent project management skills, including project planning, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical abilities to identify growth opportunities and drive business development initiatives.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and compliance standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing market dynamics.
